Description

Nagaslugs Info:

General:
Nagaslugs are amphibious, they are born as small slug like creatures with no limbs. But as they grow older they grow 4 limbs, and a large hood. The hood, when opened, reveals their colorful insides. They can only breathe underwater, but the older they get the longer they can go without a breath, meaning they spend long periods of time outside of the water. They live in swamps or marsh like areas. They secrete a sweet smelling goo, which varies between each individual. They are extremely diverse and come in a wide array of beautiful colors. They are apex predators, and they will hunt prey both underwater and on land.

Biology:
Nagaslugs do not have eyes, instead they have sensory organs atop their head, that sense heat and movement. They do have ear holes, but they are very small. Like snakes, they smell with their long tongues. They have slick, slimy skin that is used to move quickly through the water and help them escape tricky situations. They are invertebrates, so they can squish and squeeze their bodies in many different ways, and fit into very tight spaces despite their immense size. They have large brains and are fairly intelligent, but are still feral. The hood, when closed, creates a tight seal around their neck and gives them a smooth form. When opened, it reveals their internal organs, which are typically very colorful. This does them no harm, and they do not bleed when opening their hood. The goo they secrete is almost always a pleasant smell, and can be secreted at will.Β

Reproduction:
Nagaslugs are hermaphrodites, meaning they have the capability to be both sexes. They will use their colorful hood to attract mates, at which point they decide which one will be the "male" and which shall be the "female". Whomever becomes the female, will lay hundreds of eggs underwater. However, the males are expected to take care of the children until they hatch. After hatching, they left to their own.

Behavior:
These creatures do not typically form packs or groups of any kind. While they are not completely on their own, they tend to search for all their own food and take care of themselves. They do form friendships and bonds, however. They are very emotional, and will mourn the loss of a friend or loved one. While they do not mate for life, they will often mate with one partner repeatedly, typically one that they have already been friends with. They are generally mischievous, and they like to cause trouble. Especially because they are apex predators, they will get in the business of many other creatures without care of the consequences.Β

Also, each Nagaslug has a unique, sweet smelling scent. When you buy one or make one, you get to choose the scent!

Traits Sheet:

Nagaslugs are a closed species, meaning you cannot make your own.

Aaah one more question, as far as the scent they secrete goes, does it always HAVE to be "sweet-smelling", or could we have one smell like something else, say embers/ashes if the design was based on volcanos/lava as a theme? ouo

I saw the question about "bad" smells but I wouldn't have called that a "Bad" smell either so that's why I asked is all

MonsterMoxie In reply to TheElvenJedi [2016-11-25 21:10:35 +0000 UTC]

Well it seemed like a similar enough question for it to be answered by the FAQ. It doesn't necessarily have to be sweet smelling as long, it can be any kind of smell, as long as its not something completely terrible.
The only reason its usually sweet smelling is because it helps them attract prey

TheElvenJedi [2016-11-19 15:07:47 +0000 UTC]

So colour scheme wise could they basically be any colour/patterns on the body that we want? Could I base one of my MYO's markings/colours on my pet snake, for example?

Also, would they be happy living in like an ARPG stable (freeroaming through the barns and stuff like a cat would) or would I need to keep them as separate characters in the wild? ouo

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MonsterMoxie In reply to TheElvenJedi [2016-11-19 17:00:03 +0000 UTC]

Yes they can be any colors you please!

There are domestic nagaslugs but they are smaller than their wild counterparts, and still have wild instincts so they would be very different than an average pet.
It'd be more analogous to owning a pet hawk or owl rather than a cat.

Oh yeah I know they wouldn't be like cats, that's not exactly what I meant I just meant that they would wander around the place like cats do and be left to kind of do their own thing basically rather than being kept in an enclosure of any sort

Babies are like tadpoles and have very few markings, they develop markings as they grow older. And yes they can have accessories, please read the Nagaslug FAQ if you have any more questions like this! ^^

starsiick In reply to TardyPrincess [2016-08-08 20:50:58 +0000 UTC]

I can't speak for moxie, but judging by the fact that they use it to attract prey, i'd say it has to be nice- smelling

Why is their only way of attracting a mate specifically based on the one thing they're physically unable to sense? o3o

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MonsterMoxie In reply to HaanPere [2016-06-25 03:27:57 +0000 UTC]

Well it's not necessarily the only way they attract mates, but it is a primary way. The sensors on top of their head are basically their eyes, and they can sense the opening of the hood and "see" the colors. Opening the hood also releases hormones (similar to the hormones we experience when we're attracted to somebody) :3c

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HaanPere In reply to MonsterMoxie [2016-06-25 05:05:01 +0000 UTC]

I'm afraid I'm still confused. D:> How do the sensors work?
Also if opening their hoods releases oxytocin/something similar, does it mean they get a rush every time they open their hood? Or did you mean that the one 'seeing' the hood open reacts positively, or that they release pheromones when they open their hoods?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MonsterMoxie In reply to HaanPere [2016-06-25 05:15:58 +0000 UTC]

The sensors are most analogous to echolocation. They are extremely sensitive to movement and they basically send out little signals that bounce off of things and come back so that the sluggie can see every thing.
They can also pick up heat and such.
When a nagaslug opens their hood, the potential mate senses the motion of the hood opening and sees the pattern in the hood (the hood has very subtle textures that correspond with the coloration since they can't technically see the visible light spectrum).
The opening of the hood also released pheromones (analogous to how a male releases more testosterone and other things if he is attached to a woman).
If the potential mate is pleased by the hood and the pheromones, they too will release hormones which cause them to get in the mood!
Hope that makes a bit more sense :'D I don't have every detail worked out though, so some of this is up for changing

Are they able to move/wiggle their sensors at all, like how a dog or something else would move its ears?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MonsterMoxie In reply to Renkindle [2016-06-24 19:50:36 +0000 UTC]

Yes their sensors wiggle a bit when walking around to help them see their surroundings. And when they sense something really interesting their sensors will stand up or point in the direction of the object!
