how do you get it so smooth and what type of clay do you use?

For this piece I used a material called Castilene, which is basically a cross between clay and wax. To smooth it I usually just use sandpaper. It's a wonderful material.

And the rest is just butch awesome. I sincerely hope the new GI Joe can have this much character packed into a cartoon.
