The Humility was said to be a noble and regal sort of bird, but it rarely flew, if ever. Instead, it ran about on long legs, very fast. It was said to be much like an eagle, but with long narrow wings and tail. It had black plumage iridescent with blues and reds. Supposedly, it could see quite well, enabling it to see the bullet leaving a gun and dodge it before ever being tagged. A Humilty eats worms, fish spawn, and tadpoles, never gets into trees, and can be caught in ground-level snares. It was said they could not be tamed, so catching one meant you had to release it or kill it, but not ever get one to submit to captivity. The Humilty was so named because that was the only word it spoke, and you could only find this bird in summer and at no other time during the year.

The description made me think of a secretary bird, for some reason, so I mixed some of that into it.
