Description When I created Eden, I was more focused on just making a design for her, but she kept on bugging me until I had a back story to go with her! So here is the story, along with a picture to match!

To start off, Eden is a member of the Wyvern Clan and part of Hudson's Generation. Now I know some of you will be like, "Hang on! If she is as old as Hudson, why does she look so young?"  Well stay tuned and you shall find the answers you seek!

So Eden was hatched into the Wyvern Clan in 878 AD and was raised as all gargoyles of her generation were; as a daughter of the entire clan who learned to fight in defense of her home. (It should be noted that Eden was not given her name at this time, it didn’t come until much later. I will only be using it in this story telling for simplification purposes) In addition to being a skilled warrior, Eden was beautiful and intelligent. These traits made her popular among her rookery brothers, and respected by her sisters.

Unfortunately her happiness in being with her family came to an end in the year 920 AD. Although Eden had many Male admirers in her clan she did not show particular interest in any of them. One of her brothers, who was more persistent then most, became angry at her repeated rejections of him. As a result, he made a deal with a sorcerer who agreed to punish Eden so long as the punishment could be of the sorcerer's choosing.

The sorcerer had his own scheme of revenge against a rival planned out but wanted to test the method on someone else first. He had created a spell that would trap the victim in a place where they could neither be seen or heard, but would be left to watch the world pass them by. So Eden's brother lured her to a secluded reflecting pool in the forest near Castle Wyvern by telling her he wished to make amends for his behavior. The sorcerer had placed his enchantment upon the pool so that when Eden touched the water she would be trapped beneath the surface.

When they arrived at the pool, Eden's brother, who had hidden his anger at her, quickly showed his true colors. He said to her, "You are the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, but you are cruel beyond measure. I would have been the best thing that ever happened to you if you would have only accepted me."

Eden quickly realized that something was wrong and made to leave, but made the mistake of passing between him and the pool. He grabbed her by the arms and threw her into the water where she instantly vanished. The sorcerer stepped from his hiding place and looked over the water for a few moments.

"Well it seems you've gotten your wish for revenge," he said to the gargoyle.
"Where is she?" he asked.
"In the pool. She'll forever be trapped in her own reflection," the sorcerer replied.
"Can she hear me?"
"Yes. I designed the spell to work that way."
The male crouched by the edge of the pool and looked down into it, "Well my beauty," he said with malice, "I hope you enjoy your imprisonment. May it be long, and up to your standards." With that he turned his back on the pool and winged his way back to the castle.
The sorcerer congratulated himself on a job well done, turned his thoughts to when he could seek his own revenge, and left the pool behind as well. Not long after they left, the moon slid out from behind a cloud bank and illuminated the clearing in which the pool resided. A bright flash of light glinted up from the bottom of the pool revealing what really lay beneath the surface.

The spell, it seemed, did not work exactly as the sorcerer intended. Instead of Eden merely vanishing into the water, a mirror with a gilt frame had appeared at the bottom of the pool, unnoticed by either of the conspirators. This is where Eden truly was, within the mirror's reflection. At first she had not understood what was going on; she had felt the cold rush of the water and then a bleak numbness. She felt detached from the earth, as if she was floating in a sea of nothingness. All was dark and still....then her talon made contact with a smooth, glassy surface. She pressed both palms tightly to it, sure that if she let go she would never find it again. Soon the dimness began to clear and she found herself looking up at the stars through a bright square.  It almost seemed as though she was looking through a window, but she could find no wall attached...there was only the darkness.

At the words spoken by her brother and the sorcerer she began to understand what had happened, and saw no way of reversing the situation. Just as they had said, she was well and truly trapped.

Not long after this night, the mirror was found by a merchant who by chance was traveling to Castle Wyvern in hopes of trading with its royal occupants. He decided to give the mirror as a gift in hopes of winning their favor. Eden found that as the mirror moved so did the view in her bright square. She was loaded into the back of a cart, and for the first time in her life, saw the world in the light of day. She supposed her mirror had frozen her exactly as she was, allowing her to see this impossible sight.

When the merchant presented Prince Malcom's father with the mirror, he was well pleased for the the mirror was a beautiful piece of work. It had a golden frame inset with intricate patterns, and it's surface was so clear it was as if the reflection was more real than the original. He hung it in his private quarters where he would be able to always admire it.

Eden thought this would be her chance to escape if she could communicate with someone who knew her. The prince perhaps, whom she had met several times, or even her leader or second in command who spoke with the prince frequently. Whenever one of them would come into view, she would pound against the glassy surface, shout at the top of her lungs, and cry out in frustration as she remained unheard. Though she could see whatever was reflected in the mirror's surface, no one could see her.

So it came to be exactly as the sorcerer had intended: the ages passed her by; she watched and listened, but was never seen or heard. Eden was witness to the lives of the people at Castle Wyvern, one generation after another. She even saw the massacre of her clan in 994 AD and wept for those she hadn't been able to protect, as well as for not being able to die with them, frozen as she was.

Surprisingly the Vikings did not destroy the mirror when they sacked the castle but found it beautiful and took it as part of their loot. And so it began to change hands over the centuries, traveling from place to place, but never was its occupant seen or heard.  She fell into a great depression, ever only being able to watch the world and not interact with it; never changing, but watching all those around you grow old and die.

Eden's only chance lay in the markings around the edges of the frame. Over the years Eden had studied them and found that they were in fact the words of the spell used to imprison her. She hoped that one day someone would be able to decipher the markings and be able to break the spell.

---------Skip to 1997----------

Eden's mirror has traveled through the centuries and has finally landed in the hands of someone who is both familiar with history and magic. This man came across the mirror by chance and upon inspecting it found that it was not only very old but had touches of magic about it. He had studied a fair amount of magic over the years and was able to interpret the meaning of the markings on the frame of the mirror.

Now the man also known and Lennox MacDuff was no stranger to being trapped in a magically elongated life and felt a gread amount of sympathy for whoever had been imprisoned behind glass for a millinia, but was also wise enough to realize that this person could have been locked away for good reason. So instead of immedatly seeking to free the inhabitant, he first sought to find out who it was.

It took time but eventually a spell was found that allowed Eden to be seen through the looking glass and to speak her first words to another person in more than 1000 years. To be frank, MacDuff was shocked to find a gargoyle on the other side of the glass, let alone one from the Wyvern clan. After hearing her story, he was more than willing to help free her from confinement (especially since he was now on better terms with the remaining members of her clan) and did so forthwith.

It was strange for MacDuff to interact with a being who was as old as he was but to have none of the experience that should have come with that age. The time spent in the mirror had left Eden at a bit of a loss with this new world she now found herself a part of, and MacDuff found he liked being able to help a kindred spirit find its way.

He also was the one to give Eden her name. When she questioned him why he chose that name, he said her beauty was not unlike the garden for which she was named; Magnificent, but able to cause strife amongst men.

It was not long before MacDuff told Eden of the survival of her clan in New York City and brought them back together. Hudson immediatly recognized his rookery sister and both shed a few tears at finding that they still had a sibling with whom they had grown up.

The entire clan was outraged when they learned who had imprisoned Eden. "The clan is family," Hudson said, "It does not betray its own."

"The culprit is long dead, my rookery brother," Eden said in placation, "And I wish no more to live in the past."

"Aye, lass. This much is true," he said in agreement, "we should all look to the future."

And so this is how my Eden passed through the centuries to be reunited with her clan; Picking up where she left off, and living her life to the fullest
