Description The Kitchen Maid's Nightmare
{Part of The Somnambulist Club Series}

This image is part of a series of pieces I'm creating for my short illustrated horror story The Somnambulist Club. I'm developing a style for the story at the moment so any input is much appreciated.

For those that are interested you can read a brief bit from the story and see the first image I created for the series here: [link]

Materials used: my own photos, stock photos, my own personal collection of found objects & items, scanner used as a camera and PhotoShop. Brushes from Recife @ Missprined type. And I'm happy to say this is the first piece of work I created using my old Mac as well as a newer PC comp.

I already saw that one on Abnormis. I really love it and find that you've done a great composition!

hey, now, how did this sucker sneak past me?

this is very eerie and timeless. this is one of your most forboding works, but still (or because?) makes me want to snatch up the Somnambulist Club book (which, but the way, has been an incredibly big tease, and i've been looking forward to it for months to no avail. have i been under a rock and you've already released it, and everyone knows about it but me? that would be predictable. i miss out on everything. now i'm throwing a tantrum. well, if you haven't printed it yet, reserve a copy for me and name your price ms. moon.)

Again, a strikingly good composition. The sepia tones truly do the trick.. but so does the selection of images and brushes. Excellent!

Very intense. The silence of a forgotten woman.

There's a humble beauty to this you rock.

i like the gritty frontier feel to this. your work... invokes sensations... like, i could almost feel the dust rising in my nostril being kicked off boots.

Fantastic job moon! I love the gritty/surreal quality of this piece! I also dig the treatment of the figure as well as the colors! The dreamlike (or shall I say nightmarish) feel fits right in to the somnabulist theme… I can't wait to see/read the completed work!

I love the way you have made this, the signifiers of domesticity placed in a way that feels threatening - it's very unnerving ... I love it also because it's different from anything I would do or could do and that makes it completely fascinating to me...

... ditto what screamtherapy said on the faceless form... bleah! :: shudders ::

... the dry crackled texture you've applied to the figure looks like a brittle parchment that could crumble and blow away at any moment... couple that up with the pointy utensils on the wall and this is a nightmare indeed... deliciously surreal...

The persons absent face creeped me out... and that's hard to do usually... guess it's the 3am, wind howling outside with "The Deadlights" playing in the background that helped. But that is still one great piece of work. Very good use of brushes and I like how the photo of the person shows good shadowing on the neck and collarbone.
