The Nightmare Force posssesed Celestia, turning her into a corrupted being called Tyrant Celestia.
After a hard fight, Luna used her alicorn powers and the Elements of Harmony to remove the Nightmare Force from Celestia's body, restoring Celestia to normal...
...but then the Nightmare Force possessed Luna's body, corrupting her and turning her into Nightmare Moon.
And you know the rest.

That is incorrect - there is no canonical information stating this at any point, either in the show or outside of it. This fictitious story was created by fans and has no truth behind it whatsoever. Only in a stylized clip-art like intro - if that is the case, then Luna's design is also wrong. Considering the rest of the pony design in that intro is not accurate to how the ponies actually look in the show, the coloring doesn't mean much either. I'm sure you've noticed the ponies in the show don't have pointy stumps instead of legs, for instance.
