Description A plant for today I must admit, when I don't have an idea that I really like about a prompt, I google the word + "plant" or "animal"... the discoveries are generally cool So I typed "dune" + "plant" and the "American Dune Grass" showed up on my screen! This plant species lives on sandy beaches in a lot of countries (Japan, China, Korea, Russia, North America and Greenland), they are often the first plants to grow on a new dune and play an essential role on the dunes closest to the sea/ocean (they rarely grow up on the "backdunes"). To prevent being uprooted by wind, water, shifting sand, they grow from a big rhizome that anchors them in the moving sand... Thus, when there are several plants, their rhizomes form an underground network that stabilizes the dune itself, preventing erosion... A lot of coastal regions have helped them develop in order to protect the shoreline from the strength of the ocean.
