Description A keening wail cracks
the evening silence
... is someone killing cats?
A closer look shows
red-faced, amateur bagpiper.

It made me laugh.
I like the 'k' sounds in the first and third lines.
Being introduced to these new forms is great.

This was wonderful. I love the bagpipes, especially pibrochs.

I love pibrochs too, but they are so hard to remember. I'm glad you like it

Ok. You're now officially included in my non existing list of ΓΌbercool people.

Never heard of a mondo before either. Thanks for the fun read and good luck in the competition.

Thank you and you're welcome I really need to practice more, there just arent any teachers where I live, and I just tend to practice bad habits when not taking lessons.

That is the general rule for most instruments I'm afraid. Same for me with the trumpet. Can only imagine it being worse with the bagpipes though.

I'd really like to try them myself. But they're scarse here, and teachers more so.

Yeah, I had to order mine from Scotland. I don't anyone actually makes them in the U.S. though I do believe you can get them repaired here. Trumpet seems fun, though I could never blow any brass instrument properly.

And I thought you could find everything in the U.S.
Trumpets are fun, but like all brass instruments you'll deteriorate fast if you take a break from practise. A week or two and you have almost no "ambis", not to mention when you've been out of it for some years like me.

Oh, I'm sure someone somewhere works on bagpipes in the US, but nowhere that's close to me. ambis? what's that? Bagpipes are similar you start to lose your lung capacity and your arm strength very quickly - they weren't exactly designed for women to play them...

Ambis is... well basically having your lips and lipmuscles in good shape. Otherwise it just wont work, or you risk pressing so hard you break them. Not sure what it's called in English.
Can imagine that bagpipes are a demanding instrument to play. Lots of air circulating there.

breaking your lips? is that possible? I have no idea what ambis would be either

Aparently. I think it will heal though. If you look at Louie Armstrong you can see that his upper is deformed. There's other ways to get your face distorted by playing brass instruments too. not to mention Dizzy Gillezpie [link]

That's kind of insane, though I think you can do something similar if you play the pipes too long. Fortunately, I was told that it usually only happens to men.

Probably because they're more reckless. Happens to anyone who doesn't learn the correct technique.

I learned to avoid it pretty quickly. It hurt to much to play that way.
