Millie is full of bravado and veers between feeling genuine confidence in their abilities and knowledge, and bowel-knotting fear that they’re a big ol’ sham who’s fooling no one. With this self-doubt and vulnerability driving them, it should be no surprised that Millie is easy to agitate, responds badly to perceived insults and slights, and responds even worse to having to admit they were wrong.
Once Millie gets going, they’re incapable of not giving something their all. Stopping is hard and backpedaling is worse. It doesn’t matter what it is. If they’re in a race, they only want first place. If someone invites them to a bake off, well, it’s time to break out the oven mitts. If they get dared to lick that frozen flagpole, someone better call a medic because it’s all or nothing and they’re not about to back down thank you very much. They don’t ever want to seem weak
In fact, Millie puts a great deal of effort into the art of seeming in general. They feel uncomfortable going out if they feel they don't look "complete" and place a lot of stock in notions of respectability and adherence to the rules of “proper” conduct. Impropriety—which to them includes something as simple as flirting—shocks and flusters them. Deep down they’re a big romantic, but they have a hard time displaying vulnerability and showing their feelings.
They don’t at all have a hard time with showing off, though. Millie loves to give answers whether they were asked or not and is more than a bit of a know-it-all. Part of it is to prove their own cleverness, to others if not themself. Most of it, however, stems from a very genuine love of educating others. They love learning new things and absorbing knowledge like a sponge. Why wouldn’t everyone else?
History:
An only child a wealthy family, their parents’ emotional (and often physical) distance drove them to overachieving. Millie’s childhood was a long parade of nursemaids and nannies, garden play dates, private lessons, and self-imposed challenges in a bid to catch and keep their parents’ attention.
While they were younger, this proved difficult. After all, how could an eight year old meet the standards of two busy adults? This gradually changed, however, as they entered their adolescence. Millie’s hard work—their careful cultivation of talents, their dogged pursuit of accolades and education—began to pay off. They were showered in praise on all sides and basked in the warm glow of familial acknowledgement.
Unfortunately, it came at a price. The bar was high now, too high. Millie refused to even consider the possibility of failure; they could not risk falling short and losing what they felt they’d earned. They pushed themself to the brink, burning the midnight candle at both ends until, in their final year of university, their proverbial flame guttered and burnt out.
Millie was loathe to admit defeat, but they couldn’t keep going. They managed to graduate, but they were tired. The year that followed their breakdown saw them alone in their oversized tomb of a home, where they began to realize how futile and small their life so far had been. They had no friends to fall back on, no real-world experience, had nothing beyond the shallow bubble they’d built for themself.
They needed to rest now, but they couldn't stand to stay in their childhood home. Millie wanted to grow, but they needed get away from that world.
Raccolto drifted to the fore of their memories, viewed through the clouded lens of childhood nostalgia. They’d visited the little archipelago one hot and happy summer in their youth, and it was with a yearning for simpler times that Millie packed their bags and left for the islands.
They said little to their parents on the matter, and took little with them. They had enough money to find lodgings with a little left over to get them started, but they didn't really know where to start. They took to the pavement but a few disastrous interviews saw them seeking refuge in the Raccolto Public Library.
Libraries—books in general—had long been a place of safety and comfort to Millie, and it was while they were gloomily browsing the stacks that the thought occurred. Why not work here? They didn't know if there was an opening, but it couldn't hurt to ask. It could help them get a bit more exposure to others, and of course all the books were a definite perk. Soon enough, they were happily shelving books under the watchful eye of Judith Russey.
TLDR: Lonely rich kid burns out hard, flees to peaceful archipelago to learn how to person.
SKILLSAbility: Illuminate. Raises the likelihood of meeting wild Pokémon by illuminating the surroundings.
The freckles around their eyes, the green of their hands, and the green interior of their hair glow softly. They are their own night light! The glow dims while Millie is in natural or artificial light, and when they fall asleep.

They deeply admire Ms Russey and share her compunctions regarding the proper care of books, and are quite zealous with their duties. It’s their first real job, and it’s a little nerve-wracking! Of course, it’s nothing Millie can’t handle. Of course.
