Description Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Rarity climbing the Archback Mountains from "It's a dangerous Business, Going Out Your Door".

This fanfic has a special place in my heart as it was the first fic I have read. I didn't think self-published literature could compete with other fiction and have never tried it. It had some glowing recommendation though so I decided to try it. I did not realize it was a middle earth crossover until I was well into it, causing some "this seems familiar" thoughts on the way. I loved the LOTR and The Hobbit(Movie coming out soon!) when I was young(er) and it was quite nice to revisit the world somewhat. I was quite pleased to have my prejudice against fanfics removed.

Not only did it prompt me to look at other pony fanfics after I finished, getting me to gems such as FO:E and others, it got me wanting to draw as there was relatively little fan art of it at the time. (My first ever art I have done in years was of it. I have not posted it on here, it was really bad) And needless to say I love both of those things now.
So thank you Jetfire, it might be a little overboard to say you changed my life but, what the hell, you can say it anyways.

The road goes ever, ever on~
Back to the start, where it began.

Fa, la la lally~
Down here, in the valley~
No knowin', no knowin'
What brings mr. baggins
So fa la la lally
Down here, in the valley
ha ha.

Far over misty mountains cold
Through dungeons deep and caverns old
we must away 'ere break of day
to seek the pale enchanted gold.

You know, the crossover aspect didn't get really obvious until they got to Rohan Gildedale and ran into Eomer Ashtail. Although deer as elves was friggin' genius.

I started suspecting it when they used a modified Tolkien song in chapter 8 but yes it was confirmed at the encounter with ashtail.

I really wish that is fanfic was more famous among the fandom. It's one of my favorites and I really don't know how some of the others have reached their level of acclaim while this one is frequently forgotten or entirely unknown. I'm not saying that the more famous are necessarily bad, but I can certainly think of one or two that can't hold a candle to this masterfully created piece of fan literature. Canon has long sense busted it, but I see no reason why that should harm it's popularity any (which I've heard listed as the number one reason why it's fallen into obscurity).

Either way, this is a beautiful dedication to a beautiful story.

I agree, it seems to be relatively under-appreciated and I can't fathom why.

Hmm, yes I'm also pretty happy with it. The only trouble was that it took way, way too long.

Ooh! You even included a nod to the Musical!

On that note it is a fantastic story, and you've done a fantastic job drawing this part of the story

It was just a reference to JRRT's poem. He wrote quite a few but that one always struck a chord with me, as well as the other "walking songs". If I may,

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Just the feeling of adventure and discovery it conveys. I've always loved fantasy and science fiction for the new worlds they bring with them that you can explore.
