Description "You wanted to see her."

This is based on a scene from.... Xenocide...I think. Xenocide is the third Ender's Game novel. In it, practically the first thing that Valentine does when she reunites with Ender is to go meet the ressurrected Bugger Queen. When they first see her, she's killing her own workers to feed new larva queens. It's an awesome scene but I'm not going to spoil why. This is pretty much what I saw in my head when I read the book. (Maybe a little redder.)

The novels never really went in to too much detail, but a couple of things forced me to totally rethink my interpretation of the buggers.

The toughest thing was the rainbow reflection on the slime covering the wings, and to give her the disgusting majesty described in the book.

I may paint some pequininos soon.

Very nice. It was a deeply disturbing scene, I agree.  And between that and the prequel novels, I've definitely been rethinking the Formics.  She tells Ender that she hasn't learned to lie, but... well. Spoiler-free on the first invasion, but I found it hard to believe that the hive queens would not have noticed certain things.

Nice work! I'm actually really surprised that there is so little fanart for ender's saga. I just finished Xenocide and it was just... brilliant. Hopefully more people will discover the series after the Ender's Game movie comes out.

Fantastic! I've only read Ender's Game but I absolutely adored the Formics, more derisivly referred to as Buggers. This is a marvelous intrepretation of the Formic Queen! Thanks for sharing

You perform a beautiful justice in your renditions of the Formics... absolutely incredible artwork, my friend.

If you enjoyed the Ender series, I'd suggest reading some Octavia Butler. Her Patternist series and her trilogy, Lilith's Brood are pinnacles of the science fiction genre.

Your rendition of The Hive Queen shows us a very important and exquisitely described scene. It's difficult to conceptualize, and full of details, but also vague and a lot is left to the imagination. I think you've done a good job in keeping the essential parts, while also leaving a lot to the imagination. When I saw the beam of light coming from the ceiling, I knew exactly what scene this was. Good job

What can I say? This is absolute love. The way the light captures her is perfect; forming that foreboding sense of perverse, beautiful royalty I always associated the hive queen. I especially like the contrast between her and the silhouetted characters.

XENOCIDE! *Dances around happily now that she's seen Ender's Game Series fan art*

I LOVE the Hive Queen, and this is an amazing tribute to her. Wonderful job creating the mood and atmosphere. You know, I still worry about her and Ender, but... he's held out this long... drat, that reminds me, I need to finish Children Of The Mind.

I almost wish this was refracted and broken up into hexagons, like how she sees through the eyes of her drones. The speed-painting style of this makes it feel like Ender painted this quickly while gazing at her. Truly superb.
