Hongrui is someone who likes the idea of being the person others can rely on. He likes to give off an approachable vibe towards those who might find him intimidating, which explains why he always tries to strike up a conversation with his peers. He is also especially willing to lend a hand to those who ask help from him concerning their studies. This is something he is rather too enthusiastic about and, despite his usual busy schedule, will go to great lengths to help you out, even to the point of scheduling tutoring sessions after class.

Although outwardly companionable, he is very selective with regards to the people he chooses to open up to. He had previously been the kid who lacked social skills, so it should not come as a surprise that he has his fair share of insecurities. As much as he tries to be less doubtful of his capabilities, he still has a tendency to compare himself to others who he believes are naturally able to express themselves. It had become a bad habit of his, but he always tries to make use of this as a means of improving himself.

One thing he does not like to openly admit is his being an avid reader. People who had not been with him since middle school are unaware of this fact. He enjoys a good time out with friends, but spending time with his books is what he would prefer to do on most days. During such moments, he would not really mind company as long as they do not distract him.

Background :

All that Hongrui can remember from his childhood was that he was constantly surrounded by hardbound books, and the smell of it was very familiar to him. His parents were away for the most part due to their job, but his father’s study was there to keep him company. It was only a small room beside his own, nothing exceptional, but it had always been a special part of his memory. Within it were not only the stacks of books his parents had brought home for him, but the very few moments he had shared with them whilst learning and being taught by them. It was because of this fondness that he excelled in his subjects at school, but in turn caused him to be the withdrawn kid who was always by the swing set reading books.

By the time Hongrui entered middle school, however, he had begun to become more open due to the kids he had befriended there. It was a lot of getting used to given that he had come from a relatively small school, but he thankfully came across peers of similar interests. Although his shy personality was still present, he had grown accustomed to being around others.

Now that he is an older brother, he has all the more reason to do better in school to set as a good example for them.
