Description Darna is a fictional character and superheroine created by Filipino komiks (Philippine colloquial term for comics) artist Mars Ravelo. In her more popular incarnations, she is a warrior from outer space manifesting herself through a girl from Earth, named Narda.

Darna was originally known as Varga and first appeared in Bulaklak Magazine, Volume 4, #17, on July 23, 1947. Ravelo had differences with the editors of Bulaklak Magazine and Varga's name was changed to "Darna". The character was re-launched on May 13, 1950. Nestor Redondo drew the first Darna.

Wonderful job! A very sad and beautiful image, which brings to mind "The Death of Superman/Supergirl" I've known about this character for several years, and am doing my best to attempt to interest many other people as well. She already has somewhat of a cult following here in the United States.

I wish they'd do more poses of Darna this way.

Nice pose and piece. I like the idea of the young kid there trying to wake Darna. Would have been one nice fight

The kid is her brother Ding. She may have been beaten by her arch-enemy, Valentina, the snake goddess.

I've been wondering about how they would adopt these characters into a Hollywood movie. Darna could stay a Filipina character. I think, though, Valentina should be a Creole woman trained in Voodoo. So Darna fights, not only her snake minions, but also zombies.

I wouldn't hold my breath. Wonder Woman (Diana) was meant to be Greek, yet none of her depictions were completely Greek
Just like they made a Scottish speaking Russian captain in the Hunt for the Red October

Guess not. Harrison Ford also played a Russian once.

I had heard of Darna and I've actually seen some video clips from movies and a TV show with her. Very much like Wonder Woman... very nice picture, Joey!

Actually, Wobder Woman was unknown here in my country in 1951, when Darna first made here appearance. He inspiration seemed to have been Captain Marvel. In fact, seeing as Nestor Redondo also worked foR DC Comics and that Wonder Woman didn't use to be able to fly, it seems likely that Wonder Woman's present incarnation was inspired by Darna.

Wonder Woman also seems to have been inspired by Captain Marvel to some extent. Though, ironically, the famous spin transformation was not inspired by Captain Marvel, but was something the TV producers came up with independently to avoid having to shoot awkward scenes of Lynda Carter changing clothes every episode.

It's like Alfred and the Batcave. Originally, Alfred was fat and cleanshaven and there was no Batcave. The Batcave was first used in the Batman serials of the 40s. Alfred's present appearance as a thin man with a mustache was based on the actor who played him in those serials.
