Even though you say you struggle with the colors in the end I believe that you made the right choice in choosing the reds, oragnes and blacks that you sued it gives the peice a nice quality.
Also on a side note I know how you feel about semetiry I have the same problem...lol

Yes, I know.
But when I finally understand, I'd like others to understand.
And it's great to confuse you.

I've regretted writing the original comment for 16 hours and 21 minutes.
It's just so obviously a man this time...
But I'm an ass, and I did wrong. I'll go hide.

Great atmosphere-how did you achieve the texture on the floor?

Morphera In reply to Hatch83 [2007-08-19 21:00:03 +0000 UTC]
Glad you like it! Well I'll try to explain as good as I can... I used many custom made brushes for the background - the ones I remeber for the floor were a grainy one to achieve the "rough" texture, and one with long zigzag lines (red and black) which I used like a stamp to make the pattern of cracks. Then I defined some of the cracks to make them look deeper simply by painting them over with more dark paint, and I also enhanced the edges of the deep cracks with a lighter colour (bright cyano or light yellow) to enhance the edges. Umm, I think that's about it. Please ask again if you want to know more!

Thanks alot! rellatively new to painting digatally-and certainly new to this forum stuff-its great!! Im currently painting with a tablet-I dont suppose you could tell me how I could set the brush to be preasure sensitive, instead of just coming out s a block colour?! -sorry hate to sound so clueless-but i guess if u never ask!!

I've been trying to find a really good tutorial by which tought me a lot about how to use brushes. Unfortunately I've been unable to find it - it seems her website is under construction right now.
It's a shame, because it was a really good one.
Unfortunately I don't think I'm very good at helping people with photoshop - I use it in swedish, so I don't know what many of the tools & options are called in english
However, I found a quite good tutorial here at DA: [link]
which - I think - explains most things you need to know about basic brushmaking.
I can add to this tutorial that I almost never use round brushes, I prefer them grungy - but it all depends on what you want your painting to look like. Grungy brushes give more textures, a more "traditional" look if you like - but my best advice is to test making brushes of many different shapes (there are some really nice standard brushes in photoshop you can play around with, or you can try drawing the brush shapes yourself), and to try many different settings in the brushes-menu to see what all the settings do, and which ones suit you the best.
If you want to adjust the pressure of a selected brush you should go to --> brushes (upper right corner of the screen, there are nice screenshots of this in the tutorial) --> other dynamics ---> pen pressure, where you can adjust the values of the pressure.
I hope this has been of some help, there are also many good (and bad) tutorials on the internet, as well as here on DA. Good luck!
