So I decided to rework a really old piece I'd muchly enjoyed back when battleartist was still fairly active of Hsien Kho, the chinese vampire vs Jon Talbain, the werewolf. Β I think the piece has rightfully improved since back then, though talbain still took awhile to work in this piece but I'm fairly content with the end result.Related content

What's up with all the Jon and Hsien-Ko shipping? I mean they have no character interaction at all in any of the games, the OVA or the comics by Udon. Not trying to burst anyone's bubble here but to each their own. Nice piece of art never the less.

It's better than lord raptor who is an idiot and freak. mm. but like i said earlier, based on their characters i think talbain would get along better with mei lin than he would with hsien ko. though if he gets along with felicia maybe he'd not really have issue with hsien ko either.
as for why? it's more like the idea of just placing your fave characters together. hsien is my fave fem in darkstalkers and talbain my fave male. so that's pretty much it in mine, though based on their backgrounds and characters i could see them getting along.

Hmm...I do suppose you have a point there. Still you could argue that EVERYONE in the Darkstalkers cast is a "freak" in some shape way or form which is why we love them so. But then again you could argue that Raptor is the "Freakiest" so to speak in which I would bring up Jedah. One of his moves involves him cutting his ownΒ head off and spraying blood on his enemies for Talos's sake! Not to mention he claws his own freaking eyes in a win pose. Still RaptorΒ is one of my favorite characters as is Jedah along with our little girl blue. I could definitely see Jon and Hsien-Ko getting along cause they are part of the "good" Darkstalkers. I also have to admit shipping her with Jon is more appealing than shipping her with that uncharismatic boar Donovan *shudder* It's just a shame we don't really have any sort of official media seeing them interact.

again i think donovan was more with mei lin than hsien ko, but like you... I find donovan rather droll and uninteresting. even though he has that inner turmoil, I don't know... it's like the only thing that makes him stand out really since he's nearly emotionless unlike characters like ryu who will surfacewise droll have other characteristics that make them stand out. it's just too bad donovan is the "human" representation and thus the one the writers generally choose as the protagonist.
mm. well i love the creepiness and oddities of the characters. but that said, because they are villains and hsien ko isn't, it's part of why i don't really ship them myself. I mean i could under the idea that they could change but... i just don't really see the characters fitting too well. i think their personalities would clash even if they weren't on opposing sides as it were.
as for jon? yeah, it is unfortunate, then again, maybe seeing as a bit of art of jon and hsien even got published in their art book maybe they'll take it as a clue to have em interact if they put forward with more of the comics and games.

Finally! Someone gets it about Donovan! It's ironic that Capcom has another half human half demon character (yes I know Donovan is half vampire not demon, but he's a half breed never the less.) who is a lot more interesting and much more fun that could fit in the Darkstalker universe. Hell if you ask me if they ever get around to making Darkstalkers 5 they should just replace Donovan with Dante (the original not that reboot edge lord from the failed reboot.) I mean granted that's a pretty big ass "IF" but doesn't mean we can't dream now can we?

considering capcom owns both dmc and darkstalkers, if darkstalkers just fully got incorporated into dmc that would be good and dante and virgil are quite a bit more interesting damphirs than donovan is. see, i normally love the "boring" characters because they do have their own quirks that set them off. ryu is bad with tech, has a light heart, is caring for those around him, in incredible as a fighter, struggles with his inner demons and speaks more than a few words. clare from claymore while seeming like donovan initially, is always struggling and cursing her demon side, is pained by past memories, has her freak out angry moments and likes to tease her human boyfriend, raki. and mei lin who is also in darkstalkers though similar to donovan again, also has more character in that she's able to joke a bit, get annoyed and just has more compassion in general.
I think therein lies donovan's real problem. he seems like he doesn't care. he's too emotionless. if we saw him struggling more with his demon side, explore thatΒ more than him just staying quiet as he does, then it'd be more interesting to have him as a character. but as is, he's only touched upon emotionally and results in being fairly stale, more so than clare or other characters with a similar character.
even ayanami rei, another silent and quiet character shows bits and pieces of her personality here and there with her interest so she's more developed, along with the fact that while she doesn't have more character she is played off the more developed ones like asuka, shinji and gendo to help develop her more. you know ritsuko is jealous of her, you know shinji has interest in her to know her and her father, and you know asuka feels a rivalry of her. these help set her apart. what does donovan have? a side kick who is almost as emotionless as he is? great work, capcom. if anita herself were at least the opposite of donovan, more like lilith, then that could play off donovan's serious persona, but they didn't take advantage of this, instead giving donovan someone who is almost his exact duplicate and yet.... it feels like anita is more developed. you see her get angry, tearful and even happy. you see more of her motivations than you do with donovan.Β donovan just... isn't developed enough beyond his fighting. He needs to be explored more and just... express more. I think he was developed best in the anime, but that is still rather empty for donovan's character who is just so withdrawn it makes him uninteresting.

yep. donovan could work, but he needs more development. he can't be allowed to be as emotionless and simply acted up on as he is. otherwise someone else needs to be the lead, morrigan, mei lin or talbain. someone who isn't afraid of showing their emotion and character. a good lead would definitely help the series out as a whole

hahaha. I actually see talbain getting along a bit better with mei lin, hsien ko's sister. though I ship him with either. and glad you like. this was a piece I'd really liked for some time but thought it was time to "update". I'm glad it came out so well.

When Jedah was announced to be in the MvCI roster, that was when I gave up on hoping for Jon to be in a crossover game.

jon is generally low tier on the popularity scale of darkstalkers. the top ones are the girls, and apparently demitri, anakaris and jedah of the guys. it's simply a ranking system and if they're not high enough they won't make it. jon is like rikuo, chances of him getting in a cross over are just very slim

yeah. pretty much. dark stalkers is too niche and so getting them even in crossovers makes for very little chance of them getting in. hell, capcom 3 was the first time hsien ko got in and she's my fave and fairly popular! but compared to someone like morrigan or felicia she is still low tier popularity wise.

Yeah. And when Darkstalkers is no longer around, I play Omen of Sorrow. It's just like Darkstalkers, but gothic. Everyone keeps calling Omen of Sorrow "Killer Instinct clone", when in fact, it doesn't play like Killer Instinct. It's actually the closest to a clone of King of Fighters, when you play the demo.

Wow! While I would normally say that any Darkstalkers' themed picture without Morrigan in it is a missed opportunity, this is REALLY outstanding! Jon looks delightfully primal while Lei Lei has that perfect blend of cuteness and beauty that contrasts so well with the dark menace which scares the crap out of any Morrigan fan
