Description I just rushed over and snapped a few pictures of this brand new sculpture of the Morrison Colorado's Baby Stegosaurus. It's darn right adorable. His little foot actually fits into the footprint the Morrison Museum discovered, a little bigger than a quarter. All in all, it's about 2/5-3 feet long, and stands about 2 feet tall because he's in a bipedal pose, as suggested by the footprint evidence for the little Stego's we had running around Morrison Colorado 145 million years ago.

They will actually be making this into a kit that you can buy for abotu $350 bucks. I'm sure they'll put up information about it on their website when the kits are ready to be ordered. If not, you can send them an e-mail if you're an avid dinosaur kit/model person. I can't wait to get mine!

This kit is now available from cretaceouscreationsofamerica.com, but it is expensive.

Yeah, I know. I'm waiting for the other new one - the NEW baby Stego that's about the size of a football. It'll probably be out next year, or maybe the end of this year....but it'll fit better in my apartment than Spike will.

Football and Spike are what the Morrison Museum are calling them. Unfortunately...with a broken down car I can't afford a little Stego right now. As much as I want one.

Well, that new baby steggy is out now.

Can you upload more photos of Spike please? Maybe from side and more close ups? Thank you.

I'll try - I Haven't taken many pics of him lately. I did get a few of him with *Football, I'll see if I can get those edited and uploaded.

*Named because of his size. When you're the size of a football, it ends up being your name. lol

Just got a mail from Steve Riojas.
This was sculpted by Shane Foulkes, painted by Steve Riojas.

Spike.

gotcha. I do remember that Ewan was the person who did the wire frame and the body shape in aluminum foil, and then it was sent off to Shane. Sorry for not knowing the details.

This could end up on my workbench when I get the old w.i.pยดs (not in progress until I get a new workspace set up) finished...

Could Shane Foulkes have sculpted this?

Spike.

Oooh...I think he did. Quite possibly. Actually, the man that sculpted it his name it Ewan (can't remember last name) but I think Shane took the pieces, put them together, and painted it. I haven't been able to remember to get the details on it. I do know that the MorrisonNatural History Museum will be selling these baby stego kits for (I think) $350.00.

Wow! Interesting.

Nice pic, but you wouldn't happen to have a lateral view, would you?

Mountaineer47 In reply to WarrenJB [2007-10-14 04:26:34 +0000 UTC]

I do, but it was REALLY blurry. I'm going to go back over on Monday and get a BUNCH of new pics and hopefully a good one of the lateral view. You know what? I'll put up the kind of blurry lateral view into my scraps for you all, how about that?

As for the bipedalism, they're publishing a paper based off of their evidence for both Stegosaurus and the Apatosaurus that they were, as youngsters, bipedal for a time.

Don't happen to know who the artist is do you?

I'll get the name from you. I do know it, but I can't remember it. I know that the guy that made the wire frame and basic aluminum sculpture, and then put clay on it and fired it up is different than the person that put it together, finished the molding, and painted it. I'll get both names for you next week if I talk to the museum director.
