Description
Photo taken in August, 2014 @ Olmense Zoo, Belgium
There's just something about these Bat-Eared Foxes that makes them extremely cute in looks Especially this little fellow, he seems so utterly friendly! Especially compared to the more skittish ones I've encountered in other zoos
Species: Bat-Eared Fox (Grootoorvos of Lepelhond)
Latin name: Otocyon Megalotis
Originates from South Africa.
Current status: Least Concern
Did you know:
…The Bat-Eared Fox is predominantly monogamous.
…In contrast to other Canids, they have a reversal in parental roles, the males taking on the majority of parental care behavior.
…Some view Bat-Eared Foxes as an entirely different sort of species – the Otocyon – while others say it is in fact closely related to the true Foxes, of the genus Vulpes, and another group divides them into an outgroup which is not closely related to true Foxes at all.
