Description When: June 13, 2017
Where: Zoo Krefeld, Germany
Photographing the baby Bat-Eared Foxes wasn't easy with the many bushes they could scurry behind. We did our best, and I like how this photo turned out with the depth of field on the youngster behind the bush

Species: Bat-Eared Fox (Grootoorvos of Lepelhond)

Latin name: Otocyon Megalotis

Originates from South Africa.

Current status: Least Concern

 Did you know:

…The Bat-Eared Fox is predominantly monogamous.

…In contrast to other Canids, they have a reversal in parental roles, the males taking on the majority of parental care behavior.

…Some view Bat-Eared Foxes as an entirely different sort of species – the Otocyon – while others say it is in fact closely related to the true Foxes, of the genus Vulpes, and another group divides them into an outgroup which is not closely related to true Foxes at all.

Aww... I think you guys did a great job!
Foxes are skittish animals anyway. And the bat-eared ones even more so. He really does look like "I didn't steal your food! I promise!" (... while backing away... )

Great photo! Thanks once again for sharing it with us!

Aww, thank you
That does fit very well They tried to do their thing, but as soon as more photographers gathered, they got a lot more skittish (they weren't silent themselves, and their cameras were really loud). We were incredibly lucky to get a few minutes with them alone, before that crowd surged in, made the kits aware they were being watched and act different, indeed, a lot more skittish.

As always my pleasure

And it's always an honour to see your photos!

I'm sorry to hear that they were disturbed by the photographers. But with their superior hearing, I am not surprised, either. That's why it's so hard to photograph animals, I guess!
