Description When: January 24, 2019
Where: Dierenrijk Nuenen, The Netherlands

We're nearing the Summer here, and Purrdey (officially Luna) has managed to maintain her stunning coloring. She has spots more reminiscent of a Leopard, and her fur is a mix of her light-colored Dad lower on her body, and the dark-reddish coloring along her spine like her Mom.
Love the look in her face in this one

Species: Eurasian Lynx (Euraziatische lynx)

Latin name: Lynx Lynx

Originates from Europe and Asia.

Current status: Least Concern

She is incredibly grown up already, it's crazy how time flies

Another zoo photographer visited last weekend on a hunch and witnessed the mama carrying around newborn kittens.
Just goes to prove that Purrdey is a year old too; mother Anne's babies are always born about a year from each other

Oh wow!

(Cute!!!  Newborn kittens! >w< Awww!!!)  Do they have a male in with Anne?  How come she's having another litter?

Yep! Said zoo photographer shared some photos and they're way too cute Of course, you'd have to be really luck to see them, so tiny and tall grass... But he photographed Anne carrying one of the kittens so lucky him!

She has about a litter every year (so this is her third); I think she and her mate are part of the program where they're allowed to breed. Spinner was her first baby, I believe, and the first one born at the zoo (Lynxes have been part of the zoo since they started, 15 years ago).

This is Daddy Lynx, called Bob:

Awww!!!! >w<  That remains me of a few years back when I saw our neighborhood mother squirrel carrying her two new babies in her mouth, moving them into a different tree, I guess.  They just looked like tiny balls of fluff with tiny fluffy tails!

Oh!  Okay!

Aww, look at him!  He's such a fluffy fella!

Cutiee... >w<

Is that some kind of bobcat?

Mouselemur In reply to Liya04 [2019-05-20 18:42:46 +0000 UTC]

Thanks

She's an European Lynx, so related to a bobcat. It's crazy, but her coloring is more reminiscent of a bobcat than the regular lynx

Ooh...! So maybe that's why I thought that Lynx was a bobcat

We actually call them "red lynx" here, but they live in a different area entirely (these ones are supposed to be Eurasian, so it's not smart to cross them with American ones).

The face alone makes bobcats very special to me We have one zoo here with bobcats, and they're a fan-favorite even if they don't show themselves very often
