Latin name: Salvator Merianae

Originates from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.

Current status: Least Concern

…The Argentine Black and White Tegu isn’t just called a Giant or Huge, it is also actually the largest species of Tegu Lizards in the world.

…The Argentine Black and White Tegu has a strong tail, which it can use in defense against an aggressor – even a half-hearted swipe will leave a bruise – but can also partially drop a section of its tail as a distraction when faced with a threat.

…They are able to run bipedally for short distances and on four feet can reach high speeds running as well.

…it is sexually dimorphic species – males can grow to be far larger than females, and while each has a vent at the base of their tail that of the male will bulge, while that of the female will lay flat.
