Description
When: May 2, 2019
Where: Dierenpark Zie-ZOO Volkel, The Netherlands
It's a family of Pademelons
This one in the front is looking very sneaky, while the two in the back are sneakily getting away from the view of the camera
This photo is more meaningful, because it's probably the last one we have of them - they really don't show themselves quite as much or as easily these days. And "these days" is without COVID-lockdown and zoos being closed...
Species: Dusky Pademelon or Wallaby (De Bruijnpademelon)
Latin name: Thylogale Brunii
Originates from the Papua province of Indonesia and Papua-New Guinea.
Current status: Vulnerable
Did you know:
…The Dusky Pademelon was named after a Dutch painter, Cornelis de Bruijn, who first described it in the second volume of his “Travels” in 1711. There, he labeled his description with a name then current: Philander. A later common name for the Dusky Pademelon is Aru Island Wallaby.
