Description
When: June 6, 2018
Where: Dierenpark De Oliemeulen Tilburg, The Netherlands
This pretty girl is called Pipo, and she was part of the bird flight demonstration. She wasn't too graceful at times, but that made for quite some unusual and funny shots
I purposely chose this angle, because it's different and draws the eye (I think, well, hope) from the natural background to her hunched figure
Species: White-Headed Vulture (Witkopgier)
Latin name: Trigonoceps Occipitalis
Originates from Africa.
Current status: Critically Endangered

They are clean and loving, but I know a lot of people consider them ugly for their naked skin from the neck up.
But they are very pretty, if you look at them long enough; it's just with this one's brows and the dark eyes, she doesn't look too friendly

I've seen these in the wild. It's horrible, how pretty much all vultures in Africa are now seriously endangered. Great photo anyways!

There are conservation measures being taken by conservationists currently. There has been some success rehabbing and releasing vultures back into the wild. There are also poison free feeding stations now! but yes poison is still a very real threat and like you and as a vulture conservationist I look forward to a future where all vultures are abundant again

That's good news for sure Vultures are a lot more important than many people give them credit for; it's as if animals need to be cute, pretty and cuddly in order to get on more people's radar for being worth conservation efforts...
Let's hope more vultures become part of the conservation efforts and soon become indeed, abundant
