There are animals who make you so very happy when they are willing to pose for you. Mostly, because they're a shy species, but also because they have the tendency to walk right passed you. For them to pause for a bit, and look your way. That is just amazing and such an honor every single time
Species: Striped Hyena (Gestreepte Hyena)
Latin name: Hyaena Hyaena
Originates from North and East Africa, the middle East and Central Asia.
Current status: Near Threatened
Did you know:
…The Striped Hyena is known to kill its own prey, and on rare occasions, attack humans.
…They are a monogamous pair, in which both male and female take part in raising the cubs.
…It’s a nocturnal animal, typically only emerging in complete darkness, and tends to quickly return to its lair at sunrise.
…Some people regard it as cowardly, for feigning death when attacked, but they’re also known to stand their ground against larger predators such as Leopards, in disputes over food.
…In Middle Eastern folklore, the Striped Hyena is often the symbol for stupidity and treachery, and becomes the physical incarnation of jinns.
…It is the national animal of Lebanon.
