Hey hey, to all of my Caliber peeps out there in radio land…this is the Troublegirl, Katrina Capers makin’ paper here on Caliber Underground Revolutionary Radio…The Soundtrack Of Revolution. As always I’m comin’ at ya’ live from an undisclosed location here to liberate your mind with thought provoking topics and conversation and your bootay with songs of freedom and stone cold grooves!!! We just made it through another block of jams, and now I’ve got some breaking news hot and fresh off the presses, as it looks like we have the Entity on the ropes yet again, my people!
One of our favorite Paragon cyber chicks from Daedalus, Ms. Nicole “Nikki” Simone-Rattica…more commonly known as Adora-1, has been busy whoopin’ some Entity ass yet again! This time she led a gang of Caliber Freedom Fighters and started by attacking the penal colony down in Sector 23, liberating nearly 300 of our enslaved brothers and sisters! From there, they took the main citadel by storm and claimed the entire sector for Caliber!
Word on the street is that during the siege, the entire network of Sector 23 had been hacked, and the communication and behavioral programming link to the Entity Network has been severed. This means that hundreds of the Elite Sentinels, Enforcers, and Drones guarding the citadel and penal colony are no longer under the control of the Matriarch and her Entity. I’m gonna guess that we’ll use them just like we’ve used all of the other liberated Enforcers, Drones, and Elites…that means more soldiers for us to help us take our world back from that cyber succubus Sataria! With the taking of Sector 23, we nearly have complete Caliber control for the lower Southeastern Region of the grid. Although we are still relatively small in comparison to the Matriarch’s control over the majority of the grid, I fully believe that if we keep this up, we’ll soon be free of that evil bitch’s reign of tyranny and terror!
As you know ever since she was found and reactivated, Adora-1 has been our most powerful and effective weapon against The Entity and has already helped us overtake eight sectors and liberate hundreds, if not thousands of the people…freeing them from the influence of the Cybercom Entity. And yeah, I know…I know...there is much controversy over her dark and mysterious past. I get it that we don’t really know much about her at this point other than the fact that she used to be the Matriarch’s top Elite Enforcer and personal bodyguard and many of our Caliber comrades have fallen at her hands. I don’t know about y’all, but I believe in giving people second chances…besides, she was under the influence of Sataria’s programming and wasn’t of sound mind.
Cut the gal some slack for cryin’ out loud…especially considering that she’s almost a damn robot with very little of her fleshy meaty parts left!!! From what I understand, she has DFA like a bitch and whatever’s left of her brain is all kinds of scrambled…poor girl. To all of you former sentinels, enforcers, and drones out there that have been liberated from the Entity’s cybernetic network…you can probably relate to our gal and you know exactly what it’s like being controlled by malicious programming against your will! Not to mention since her “resurrection” and resurfacing several months ago, I think her track record has spoken volumes as to whose side she’s really on…ours baby!!!! Daedalus has given us their word that she’s one of the good gals now and there are absolutely no traces of Sataria’s poisonous programming anywhere in her databanks or memory chips!
And Adora-1…wow, she continues to do nothing short of amazing! I mean…what can’t that gal do?!? The Entity can’t seem to stop her at all…hell, death couldn’t even stop her! Shout out to my girl Techna and the fine folks up there at Daedalus who’s responsible for keeping our number one chrome covered, cybernetic bio-synthetic sister in tip top shape with the tune-ups, repairs, and upgrades to help us to continue to fight the good fight! I know one thing…I have got to get me one of those diamonds that she has implanted in her chest! Diamonds are a girl’s best friend ya’ know…especially if they can do all of the dope stuff that hers can do! That’s my girl though…big shout out to Adora-1 for all that you do for us! You give us hope and inspire us, girl!!! You’re our shining light through the darkness…keep on fighting the good fight!
Woo…you have no idea how amped up this has me feeling!!! I’m starting to get a little emotional and misty-eyed up in here! Let me calm down and focus so that I can do my job! -She has the standard augmented strength, speed, and other augmented natural abilities that comes from extensive prosthetic cybernetic enhancement transformation.
-Adora-1's body is constructed of near indestructible yet flexible metallic alloys and other bio-synthetic materials that are resistant to bullets, moderate explosions, fire and other extreme temperatures, surges or high electrical currents, extreme impact, and other harmful and damaging attacks/forces. She is capable of self-repair to serve as a quick-fix for minor damage sustained while on the field of battle.
-Part of her brain is a highly advanced computer processor preloaded with thousands of combat sequences and other vital learned skills at the master level from everything to various styles of martial arts, demolitions, vehicle operation and maintenance, hacking, and a plethora of other practical applications. Her brain is linked to the Daedalus Database, giving her access to a plethora of information. She can download information at blazing speeds and her natural intelligence has been increased two-fold. Several Dataports and Jacks have been added to her for syncing with computers, other machinery, and even interfacing with other cyborgs.
-She is also an excellent hand-to-hand fighter with thousands of martial arts techniques uploaded into her brain and available to use instantly.
-Her bionic eyes are capable of such abilities as zooming, panning, X-Ray vision, Thermal Vision, Night/Low-light vision, intermediate medical diagnostic, reading energy signatures, targeting, judging trajectories and distances, image capturing, and other extraordinary abilities.
-The mysterious diamond-like gemstone implanted within her chest seems to amplify and greatly enhance her already extraordinary abilities that her high-tech cyborg body is capable of as well as act as a self-replenishing energy source to keep her systems functioning and running at optimal performance. In addition, it gives her the ability to emit high powered blasts of energy as a long-distance attack or envelope her limbs and make her melee attacks exponentially more powerful. She can also create an energy shield to protect her or expand it to a limited radius to deflect hostile attacks. It is not yet known to what capacity that Adora-1 can manipulate the energy of the diamond; its full potential has yet to be reached and any limits have yet to be discovered.
Random Quirk: -Nikki sufferes from Dissociative Fugue Amnesia...a mental disorder that is common amongst cyborgs whose organic brains and personalities have been dormant for long periods of time due to strict cybernetic programming. Depending on the amount of time the brain has been dorment usually determines how long memories and personalities will return...in extreme cases, sometimes they never fully return.
Nikki remembers very little of her past before she was recently found and reactivated after being thought dead for nearly 10 years. With frequent cyber-psychoanalysis therapy sessions and counseling, her memory is slowly retuning to her fragments at a time. Her personality, however, has increasingly become more dynamic and natural...however, there are days where she still struggles with her detached humanity and acts cold and robotic-like.

Yep...it's official. I HAVE NIKKI FEVER!!!! I have FINALLY put my foot down and despite waffling back and forth for the past few years, I have decided to go back to what I initially had in mind when I first started posting on DA (My very first deviation!!!) and definitely when I made the decision to start creating stories and such back in 2009 to go with my heart...and my heart lies with Adora-1!!!!
I've come to realize that I've been worrying too much and seeking much of my artistic validation through faves, comments, and pageviews here on DA...and while I definitely appreciate all of the attention that I've received over the years, especially for my cheesecake pics of Sapphira and some of the other gals, I want to create something more than eye-candy pin-up art. Sure...I still absolutely love to create pin-up art, but I've got a story I want to tell and it features a cyborg gal by the name of Adora-1.
I've let the fact that Sapphira being my most popular character destract me and even change up my initial vision and ideals to cater to getting even more pageviews and faves, and being that DA doesn't seem to be nearly as active as it once was, that has somewhat left me feeling high and dry. Sure, there are quite a few of my longtime followers and watchers around and I thank you for sticking with me! But I would find myself stressing myself out to no end trying to create "perfect" pieces of art and captivating stories in hopes of creating some sort of overnight success art boom and that people would fall in love with all of my characters on a large scale.

I realize that while it's great to dream big, I have delusions of grandeur that I blame for growing up in the "Age of Entitlement" by thinking that I deserve accolades and good things without doing the hard workd b/c I think I'm awesome. I don't sketch/draw on a daily basis to practice and improve my skills. I don't write on a daily basis nor read other fictional books to become a better writer. I'd rather sit and press the refresh button on Facebook and DA to read other people's comments or seek validation or approval from likes or faves...neither of which can really do anything for me other than make me feel warm and fuzzy for a few minutes b/c someone liked what I had to say/post/draw/write.
Truth is, I do want for my characters to become well known on a mass scale...I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I would be lying if I said that I was one of those artists that don't care about props and accolades...I do! (Blame it on the theatre major/actor in me!) I love receiving positive affirmations, however, I have come to see that seeking said affirmations has crippled me as an artist. It's taken the fun out of art...instead of trying a new pose or something that I know won't visually come out great, I have stuck with easy and static poses to draw. To boost my pageviews, I have gone with my character that's the most popular b/c she's the most visually appealing and sexiest of all of my characters. I have done things for others more than I have for myself.
So...I say all of that not to say that I don't care what few fans and watchers like or don't like, but consider this a declaration of me doing the art that I most enjoy and love doing. And featuring the characters that I most love and enjoy drawing/writing about. And that's not a bad thing...while Sapphira is by far my most popular character, she is still my second favorite character of all of my OCs and will still be featured on the regular; you Sapphira fans can relax...she's not going anywhere! But, no longer will I try to manipulate my characters to make them as marketable as I can just for the sake of pageviews and faves.
As for Adora-1/Nikki/Ms. Simone-Rattica (Longtime watchers...see what I did there with her "new" last name?!? ) She's the flagship...the Chosen One...the face of Lightworks Universal (my soon-to-be existant universe). And I'm happy with that decision....I hope that you will stick around and see what else I've got in store and how I will work Sapphira and the other gals into the mix of things as the supporting cast to my Paragon here!

Thanks for chiming in! This one was definitely one of my favorites this year...I really need to implement more dynamic poses into my work! Hopefully 2016 will be a year of much growth in that area amongst others!

Good stuff. I really like some of the subtle changes to her look. The eyes are a really nice unique touch. I know it's a small detail, but HUGE at the same time. You managed to find a nice balance between human and robot that will let you play with showing a lot of subtleties in emotion but still conveying a cold mechanicalness (is that word?). I also like the sense of history that you set up here. It give people a starting point and fleshes out the world a bit, plus it feels familiar to those of us that have been following you for years. I think you're handling your reboot better than DC Comics has in recent years.
On another note; while reading this I got to thinking about your lack of male characters (as we've discussed before)... being that it is a sort of post-apocalyptic or post-some-kind-of-politcal-upheaval, maybe there is a reason for the shortage of men. I still think you should work in a couple of dudes as supporting characters if not main, but is there an opportunity here for some story that explains why there are either less men around or more women in positions of power?

Thanks man...yeah, a lot of these changes started back when I decided to go back to the drawing board and de-combine her and Sapphira's character and basically rebooted everything here Even that piece has been tinkered digitally, and thus was the need to create this piece which we're commenting on now.
What I think Nikki's character/personality was lacking before the merge was mystique. Nikki was too much of a goody-two shoes very close to being a Mary Sue. I wanted to make her darker (personality wise, not skin tone...ironically, I've actually lightened her skin tone a few shades!) and a bit more mysterious....what better way to do that than to turn up the "mechanicalness" (It's a word now! 
And thanks on the reboot comment! I've never really been a DC fan, but from what I gather not too many folks were pleased with the DC reboot. I think I have an advantage in that Nikki isn't really established as some of the big name iconic characters like Supes, Bats, and WW. Not to mention, I have only a handful of folks that have been following her and keeping up with her stories over the years like yourself...I mean, we've been DA friends for almost 9 years now!
As for the male character thing...I think you were right when you originally said that my world could use some males. Originally, I did have Sataria assimilating women only while trying to eradicate the male populous; don't think I want to go that route anymore. I also played with the idea of since Sataria is the most powerful being on Earth and has seized great control, she's somewhat of a feminist. That and/or she purposely made Nikki and all of her other top cyborgs to be her "daughters" since she can't naturally give birth anymore. (Since you're my homie, give this unposted story that I wrote a few months ago that explains Scarlette's/Sataria's motives
The TranshumanistPersonally, I am a huge advocate in the worldview of transhumanism and posthumanism. I am a former paraplegic amputee that was also blinded in one eye whose life was literally transformed to a level beyond that of an ordinary human, thanks to the wonders of science and technology. If it weren’t for my father’s brilliant achievements in the field of cybernetic bio-engineering, I would have been confined to a wheelchair for the rest of my life after that horrific automobile accident that I was involved in as a teenager. The cybernetic limb, eye, and spinal replacements that he created for me gave me new life…and so much more! And I suppose that the apple didn’t fall far at all from the tree…I would inherit my beauty and eloquence from my mother, and it seems as if I inherited my sheer brilliance and genius-level intelligence from my father’s genes. Naturally, I took an early interest in transhumanism and the ideology of en) I do realize that I want to create a world that is diverse though...even if none of the main characters are male. But, I don't think it will ever be a fully marketable idea if there aren't any prominent male roles somewhere.

Well being powerful is a good thing, but she must have some weakness no? Otherwise battles with her enemies would be boring. I mean, if she is immune to everything there is no thrill of the danger XD but very interesting description and background, nice job!

She has weaknesses...honestly, many of them are character flaws rather than an Achilles heel type of weakness. To be fair, her enemies far outnumber her...and that's just the grunts. The upper tiered enemies that I have planned for her to face are just as powerful if not more powerful than her. I guess I just had in mind that she was created to be a near perfect bio-weapon.
But I definitely agree with your POV...I know that's why a lot of folks don't like Superman or Wolverine or even Batman to some extent is b/c they're too powerful/have too many abilities which gives them the upper hand. Yet, they're still classic characters. Or the Dragonball Z universe...Goku and Vegeta are powerful as all get out, especially when they hit Super Saiyan levels. But, even at their most powerful they still could barely hang with folks like Maijin-Boo and Cell.

A new pic with non static poses, good to see you leaving the comfort zone for challenge. There's nothing wrong with what you wanted to achieve, but it requires dedication and you need to work on it, marketing your most popular character is nice, but i believe you realized it doesn't work so well at the moment right? I think you should focus on your skills to really get the views and comments that you wanted.

I do indeed want that daily dedication to be a better artist, however I'm starting to see how that popularity is relative. I want to be a better artist, but I shouldn't want to be a better artist just so I can get more pageviews and faves.
What I really miss that I've been trying to recapture in recent months is that spirit of fun and boldness to try different techniques and ideas that I used to have several years ago. I've been too afraid to step out and try new things in fear of getting negative attention for my efforts. I've been worrying too much about trying to make "good quality" art, which isn't necessarily a bad thing...every artist should strive to create better art with each piece. However, it's not a race to perfection either.
I think I've just been unrealistic with my expectations and I finally realized that several months ago.

I'm just using views and favs as an example, you can become better for different goals and purposes.
If you worry about the reaction too much, there's little point in doing art as it's a means to express yourself, you create you chars and story the way you like. And why do you worry about quality? For example, do you know the works of Japanese sword smiths are graded differently? They don't create 100% grade works all the time, most of the times it's 70% 80% and so on.
And, challenge yourself, it is a way to bring back the fun aspect. The sense of achievement when you solve a difficulty is the key, it is your fear to try new things that took away the joy.

I recently have been diagnosed with anxiety/depression and adult ADHD, so that makes some sense as to why I worry/fear so much about what I create to the point of hindering my creative process. Not trying to make excuses for it, but in the past 2-3 years it has become increasingly difficult to not only stay focused, but creating for the sake of creating and with greater ease as it used to be. It was like I jinxed myself about 2-3 years ago when I made the decision that I was gonna self-publish my novel/novella...I think I psyched myself out so bad that I just haven't fully recovered, as I can't seem to unstick my mind from thinking that I have to create some insanely superb body of work or else I'm a failure. (Looks like I know what I need to talk about on my next trip to my counselor's office! 
But anyways, I do need to continue to push and challenge myself. I wish I could get involved with an artistic group of some sort here locally that will help hold me accountable and push me to be better. Or, if nothing else, just a group of folks to share art with.

Yes it is, what matters most is maintaining positive attitude towards a thing, everyone has their own struggles, I have seen disabled artists who are forced to draw with only their legs or mouth, but they can paint brilliant pictures like other normal artists, simply because they keep on fighting instead of giving up.
As for worrying about negative feedback, people that are willing to risk it just to inform you of the errors in your pictures are very valuable for your improvement, they are the ones that truly want to help. My friend that got me started into drawing always complained about my stuff, and i appreciate his efforts, otherwise i wouldn't want to improve.
I hope this discussion does not give any unpleasant feelings to u, but the best way to solve this issue is to build your confidence by training.

You're right about the positive attitude...I have a very poor attitude towards my own work to where it hinders my progression as an artist. I have to unlearn the thought process of that I have to be perfect with each creation and that if I don't get lots of page views and faves that it's not a good piece. Not to mention that I realize that my subject matter of what I draw isn't gonna appeal to a lot of people anyways, so I shouldn't be so caught up on stuff like that.
By no means do I think your words and this discussion lead me to have any unpleasant feelings at all. I do want to get more training and find a community/gathering of other artists here in Atlanta where I live to push me and help me grow. It's very difficult for me to remain motivated by myself.
And one more thing...what are your commission rates? I'm wanting to get some commission work done of my gal Adora-1 and would be possibly be interested if your prices are affordable.

Hmm a community? U can try of course. I don't know if it helps in getting better, so far the group i ever encountered don't do that, sharing works and ideas maybe, but training part is done by yourself.
I don't have a fixed rate, just tell me the requirements and i can give u a price estimation.

Well, I guess not so much for training in a community setting, but at least having "competition" amongst other artists and striving to put forth your best pieces to share with peers and friends. And perhaps receiving constructive criticism from time to time won't hurt either. If I had the time and money, I'd find and take art classes to improve and receive more formal training; I'm self-taught and know it would benefit me greatly if I were to go back and properly learn the basic.
And as for the commission...depending on how much you're charging, I have possibly two in mind. The main idea is to have a pic done of my character Adora-1 in the process of being forcefully turned into a cyborg mid transformation; I would like to see you put a pseudo-grotesque cyborg spin on it very similar to these Grotesque Female Cyborg 11 by MikazukiShigure I have an idea to write a short story to accompany it as she's remembering the agony and terror as she was first converted into a full-bodied cyborg by an evil organization and used as a bio-weapon drone before she was recused and reformulated by the good guys.
The second idea is just a pic of her as she looks fully assembled, maybe as she's being activated...just more of a standard full-bodied drawing/pose.
