Mothers Day has come and gone, but this is an idea that danced around in my head. For some time now, I've been wanting to create Sapphira's mom...Senorita Carmen Fuentes-Reese. Longtime and uber-loyal followers/watchers of mine may have actually read my legit unpublished...and not all that great if I'm being honest with myself...novel "Destiny Derailed" (formerly known as "All Falls Down") from 2010. If you actually took the time to read my story...first of all, THANK YOU!!! And secondly, you may remember that there was a chapter where Sapphira was able to make amends with her estranged mother. Sapphira walked through the door of Carmen's of Cuba with impeccable timing just as her mother had received the stunning bouquet of flowers, candy, balloons, and giant teddy bear...in her hand was a manila envelope. The short inquisitive middle aged lady that delivered the bouquet was star struck at seeing Sapphira enter the establishment...she bega I've always had a pretty clear picture in my head of what Senorita Carmen looked like, but back in those days I didn't even think about drawing her. I thought that I would give her a shot in Daz...I didn't finish designing her in my first sitting, but decided to pull her out on Mothers Day and voila!!!

While she's not built or genetically enhanced/augmented like her daughter Senorita Carmen is just as tough, outspoken, feisty, and oft-abrasive as Sapphira...maybe even more in some regards. Originally hailing from Havana, Cuba Carmen and her family came to the US when she was a teenager by floating over on a raft to seek a better life. She found that while not nearly as bad as things were in Cuba, her situation in the US wasn't ideal either and had to find work as a cook in restaurants instead of go to school to help her family make ends meet. She met her husband and Sapphira's father, Ricardo "Ricky" Reese, at the age of 17; Ricky and his Afro-Latin jazz band often gigged at the restaurant where Carmen worked. Carmen first fell in love with Ricky's music and danced while cooking; they would eventually meet behind the restaurant while both were taking smoke breaks and the two immediately hit it off. They started dating, fell in love with each other, conceived Sapphira, and got married extremely young...they have been together for nearly 36 years.

Senorita Carmen's life has been the classic "rags to riches" story going from extremely poverty in her youth, struggling in her young adult years, and finally winning the lottery...making her and her family instant millionaires. Carmen was smart with her riches; her dream was always to go to culinary school and own her own restaurant chain, and she did just that with her winnings. After graduating from one of the finest culinary institutions in the country, she opened her own first restaurant...Carmen's of Cuba, an upscale Cuban & Caribbean bistro and live music venue featuring her hubby and his band as the house band. The first location was so successful that it would spawn two other locations in the greater Solaris Valley and Seraphim Falls metropolitan area, is one of the most popular spots in all of town, and has made Senorita Carmen into one of the most successful restauranteuses in the world. It also doesn't hurt that her husband is an accomplished musician and her daughter is one of the most popular fighters and celebrities in the world!

I'd imagine that Sapphira came to visit and celebrate her Mami on Mothers Day and decided to take pictures...thus leading to this series!
