Senorita Carmen wanted to get her hubby and Sapphira's Papi, Ricardo "Ricky" Reese, in for a few family pics. Ricky is the complete opposite of his wife and daughter...he's cool, suave, calm, and level-headed. He's always had a certain panache and savoir faire to him. Born to an African-American father and Puerto Rican mother, Ricky grew up in the rough neighborhood of Seraphim Heights in Seraphim Falls. As I mentioned in part 1, he and Carmen met when they were 17 years ago at the restaurant where she worked in the back alley while both were taking a smoke break, fell in love, got married, had Sapphira, and have been married for nearly 35 years now. Carmen was drawn in by his musical talent, but couldn't resist his charm and dashing good looks; he also thought that she was absolutely gorgeous and he knew that he was gonna marry her the first time he laid his eyes on her...after many ups and downs over the past 35 years, they are both still very much in love with one another.

While many of his friends and peers gave in to the street life either joining gangs or turning to hard drugs, Ricky found peace and solace from his rough environment with his love for music. He learned how to play the piano at a very young age and would later self-teach himself how to play the guitar, bass guitar, trumpet, and drums/percussion; he also sings quite well! Ricky would often sit in and play in local dive bars and clubs, even when he was still underage and not legally allowed to be in said bars and clubs...but as many people would say after hearing him play, "The kid is good!!!" He and his band Afro-Latin jazz band "Groove Pocket" has recorded a few albums to moderate acclaim; Groove Pocket is also the house band for Carmen's of Cuba Bistro. Ricky is well-known and respected in the music biz, having either played with or helped produce a lot of songs and hits for other musical artists over the years.

A slick talker and a bit of a hustler looking for ways to come up on a dollar quick, Ricky's mouth has at times gotten him into trouble over the years. He had a bit of a gambling problem in his younger days and often kept himself and his family in tight spots as he would gamble away his night's earnings playing billiards and cards; he almost gambled away a large chunk of the earnings won from hitting the lottery at one point! After Carmen threatened to divorce him years ago, he's eased up on his reckless gambling considerably but will occasionally get the itch to dance with Lady Luck when he's feeling frisky!

Despite being a musical virtuoso of sorts and a hustler, Ricky is first and foremost a family man...he loves his wife and he loves his "Baby Girl" Sapphira and would move Heaven and Earth to take care and protect them!
