Description So Marcus...just what have you been up to in the way of creating this year so far?  I'll tell you what...I downloaded Daz Studio 4.9 around last Christmas, looking for an alternative to help me create my OC's and tell their stories.  I have been super impressed at what I've been seeing in the way of 3D renders, as they have come a long way since years ago when I was first interested in getting Daz Pro.  Plus, I have a computer that's at least halfway capable of handling the program, so I dove in and gave it a shot.

If anything...this is one expensive hobby!!!!  Buying poses, materials, models, and environments adds up and it doesn't help that they have frequent sales that make me want to buy whatever I can to boost my content library so that I can have more resources to create my characters.  Plus, the learning curve is a bit steep...well, at least it's steep for me!  I've looked at numerous tutorials on Youtube and I'm still having trouble with lighting and shaders in particular.  And while I stated that my computer is halfway capable of handling Daz and creating renders, I see that I'm gonna need to upgrade and invest in a graphics card and perhaps more RAM as well.

But...this is my first render!!!!  I see a few major glaring issues, such as her eyes look weird and she could definitely use better lighting...but not too bad for my first official render!  She's not really a character from my universe; I just wanted to see what I could do with this baby.  What are your thoughts?  Any 3D enthusiasts have any tips, pointers, or other things that could help me out?

I think if you hadn't mentioned her eyes being weird I wouldn't have noticed. I thought she was bionic and her eyes matched that theme. Aside from the flaws you mentioned (save one), I think this is an excellent first Marcus! Keep at it, it's frustrating at times, but usually worth the attempts. My first try was a naked character.  I didn't even bother with clothes, let alone a spacesuit.

Yeah, I wanted to give her bionic eyes, but this didn't come out like the texture that I chose was supposed to.  But, I guess it does still look bionic.  And I'm still plugging away at trying to learn how to use Daz.  Plus, I think I may have to start investing in a faster video card for my laptop as well to speed things up for rendering.  But thanks!

Oh yes, we've all invested in a new graphics card -- at least those of us who are serious have.  I invested in both a new PC and graphics card.

Not bad for a first try. I have no clue about this Daz software, but many 3d apps feature simular options for lights, so I might be able to point some things out. Very good results can be achieved with using a skysphere with a hdr panorama image as it will add a subtle diffuse light. For character presentation most of the time a rim light is used. You can set this up by adding a spotlight behind your character. You could also strenghten the AO of the ground a bit and I would recommend that you rework the camera as your image is shifting to the site. It is helpful to use the edge from the ground as a kind of guide, or if you want to keep the angle just like that, hide that edge alltogether.

Looking good for your first render. I can't give you tips with Daz Studio because I use Poser 2014. But I can tell you be prepared for trial and error. Also, if you want to make/modify textures for the cybernetic outfits for your ladies, get a good imaging editing software. Adobe Photoshop CS2, while it's old now but it's still good and free to download.

Thanks Dwight.  I just recently got a series of short vids that explains all of the tools and such in great detail, so hopefully I can go through those and start pumping out some sweet renders!  And as for the image editing software, I use Clip Studio Pro now and I'll probably need to look for some tutorials on that or something to help me when it comes to postwork.
