Well, at least that's the first try...I don't know if I will change it...only to try a new background...But I'm sure it will went bad...Crocodile, aka Mr.0, ex-shichibukai, from One Piece, belongs to Eiichiro Oda (c).

LOL OK, I'll explain all to you, but I warn you I could ruin you the entire War and Impel Down saga : P
Anyway, if you don't want it to be ruined, don't read what I'll put below (and it will be very sumarized):
Kuma, one of the shichibukais, fights against Straw Hat Pirates in Shabaody Archipielago. Kuma defeats all of them without efforts and he sends all of them to a different island. Luffy is sent in Boa Hancock's island (one of the shichibukai and the most beautiful woman in the world), which is full of women and there are no men. There Luffy learns that Ace is going to be executed. Boa Hancock, who's his ally now, will help him and she will help Luffy to get infiltrated in Impel Down, the biggest prison (and the worst) in the world. In this prison, there are six levels: The more dangerous a criminal is, the lower level he'll be sent. Ace is in level six. Luffy will descend for each level and he will find old friends, but also old enemies, like Crocodile, Buggy, Mr.3...etc.
Ace, Crocodile and Jimbei (another shichibukai, friend of Ace who's in Impel Down because he didn't want to fight against Whitebeard, who's going to rescue Ace and for that WB will create a war) are locked in the same level.
While Luffy's descending, he'll meet some special prisoners, concretely two: Ivankov and Inazuma, who are two okamas members of the Revolutionaries and Dragon's friends, who will help Luffy.
When Luffy, Inazuma and Ivankov reach level six, is too late: Ace is being sent into a marine ship which will send him to Marine Ford where we will be executed.
Jimbei, who recognize luffy for his hat tells Luffy that they already have taken Ace and that if they use the elevator, they will reach Ace in time. When inazuma, Ivankov and Luffy are going to the elevator, they realize they have been trapped in level six. Without knowing what to do, they hear a deep voice coming from a dark cell that says that if they want to get out of that level, then they'll have to release him from his bonds. Luffy recognize him and he realizes that the person who's talking is Crocodile. Crocodile begins to explain why he wants to go out to the war: He wants to kill Whitebeard now that he can, so he expresses a deal: if they release him, he could do a big hole in the ceiling of the level and they could escape; Crocodile could go to the war and Luffy could save his brother. First, Luffy doesn't want to free him, but Ivankov tells Luffy that he and Crocodile met in the past and that he knows a precious weakness of him: If Crocodile tries to betray them, he will reveal this weakness. Crocodile, though he really doesn't like being blackmailed like this, accepts this terms. Luffy also agrees and then they decide to free Crocodile.
Then Jimbei, who heard all this conversation, asked luffy if he could free him too, because he wanted to help Ace. Luffy also agrees, so they liberate both Jimbei and Crocodile. One of the craziest teams in all history has been formed: Luffy, Crocodile, Jimbei, Inazuma and Ivankov have formed an alliance.
So that's the little story why Luffy and Crocodile became allies

Well no, when they get separated, Oda focuses on Luffy's story, but all of Zoro's training and Sanji and the story of the others is shown after the War. Then they start their trainings and after this there's the 2Y Timeskip.
