*NOTE: I just realized I forgot her cutie mark but now it's fixed.

I saw the original and just had to do this. If you think it's worth a chuckle, props to you for understanding. lol The only problem I ran into was Trixie. I couldn't find this oh-so-perfect vector...so I had to make it....it took awhile....

I'm not understanding trixie's problem. XD

Teh square root should eliminate the square over P, c, M, and half the ^4 on c. That should get Pc+Mc^2. But i'm doing it wrong, i'm sure. xD

Actually, no, I think you're doing it all right.

Hey, guy, you are not needed here!

E= MC^2 is the simplified version of that (the infamous equation we all know.) Trixie's is the more "complex" Energy-momentum relationship which is basically the same thing, except I believe it's used for objects going faster than .10c. If I remember my relativity, whenever an object is below <.10c, the p^2c^2 is approximately 0 or something, thus canceling out and leaving you with E=MC^2. Thus, you can derive the kinetic energy equation and momentum equation by the relativity equivalent. That's what make Einstein's math so awesome-- whenever it leaves the boundaries of relativity, it crosses back over to classical mechanics flawlessly.

Wait, so then (Mc^2)^2^2c^2+M^2c^4...
Then M^2c^4^2c^2+M^2c^4... P^2c^2=0?

MrBarthalamul In reply to KirbyfanNeox [2011-07-28 02:38:48 +0000 UTC]

Your smiley faces aside, you are correct. You are simply setting the equation for rest energy equal to the equation for total energy. If you say that the total energy equals the rest, and if a particle is at rest it has no momentum, then you successfully proved that the momentum component has to equal zero.

MrBarthalamul In reply to SalaComMander [2011-07-24 03:07:01 +0000 UTC]

Oh I'm SO glad you asked! XD *activates physics nerd mode* The long equation is the more correct way to say E = Mc^2 because it incorporates momentum, "P". What you know and love is the equation for the rest energy of a particle. Rest meaning no movement and if there is no movement the there is no momentum and if there is no momentum the P^2c^2 becomes 0 which makes the equation (after removing the root sign) E = 0+Mc^2 or E = Mc^2. Tada! Physics = Magic! <3 *end physics nerd mode*

Just to clarify, m used in the formula uses rest mass, but the momentum should be calculated with relative mass.
