Description
"When ya hit the ground, tell 'em Rainbow Dashery sent ya!"For the ones that do not know, this be a crossover with the classic PC game from 2000, Crimson Skies. A game dear to my childhood now ponified for (I believe to be) the first time. There are so many ideas floating around in my head about a ponified story of the game's setting, great opportunities for analogs of characters from both and perfect planes to fit the pones. Applejack being RD's wingman..pony.. thing. Rarity being their Airships captain, Fluttershy can be the airships navigator, Twilight and Spike can be a scientist and her assitant that RD rescues.
This picture in particular has been on the burner for a number of months and initially started as an air combat action vector, but I ended up retracing back to instead setup some backstory, see if people are interested before I try something so ambitious.
Is this universe something you'd like to see more of? Dieselpunky style pirate pons trekking across the skies stealing from the rich and making friends with the poor?

I had to install an unofficial fix to get mine running on Windows 7, works well, just with the odd flicker and colour glitch during loading screens

I was trying to run it on Windows 10, (I think software might have been the wrong term) My guess is the game's files are what is not compatible anymore, though this fix you mention might be worth looking into.

Awww man I loved this game! I remember playing the arcade version where you sit in like a bubble and it jerked around as you took hits, dipped, rose, and landed on the blimp's hook.

I have always wondered how a Zeppelin such as this would operate, given the incredibly large gaps where gas-cells should be.

The game's Zeppelins seem a bit empty, yeah, although the USS Macon and Akron were big enough for a hangar like this. Too bad they were never used.

The hanger of the Akron-class airship were only big enough to tightly fit one Sparrowhawk.
It did not take-up the entire hull.

True- though the Macon did carry four Sparrowhawks.
Funnily enough, the game's Pandora carries six launch-ready aircraft... which is less than the projected ZRCV airship, which would have carried nine BT-1 dive bombers. Unfortunately it was never built.

The loss of the Akron, then of the Macon, gave airships a pretty bad reputation in the USAF. Then, the Roosevelt administration placed a limit on the size of new airships, which probably killed the project.
Still, it's interesting to think about the past that could have been.

I've never been a fan of the rear winged rear engined planes, they just look a bit odd to me. tbh though, this kind of looks like someone tried to remake the X-wing fighter as an actual plane xD.
