Description

The next step in our ‘What Dreams May Come’ campaign – an adaptation of Richard Pett’s fantastic ‘Blight’ megabook – does not come from the aforementioned adventure path, but does originate from the hands of the same brilliant author. It is the Pathfinder module ‘Carrion Hill’, and since I’ve relocated our campaign to Ustalav in Pathfinder’s world of Golarion, I can actually send my players to that exact same city.

Our heroes have just confronted and defeated the source of the Panacea movement, the Three (or rather two remaining) Sisters, in their strange underground realm of the ‘Womb’, which was warped and misshapen by the corrupting influence of the Dimension of Dreams. After their victory, the party members discovered that the dying ‘Womb’ had birthed one final monstrosity that is now crawling to the surface, leaving behind a revolting trail of putrid slime. Tracking the creature, the heroes resurface in the city of Carrion Hill.

In an ancient cavern below the city, called the Sunless Grove, the adventurers find traces of five cult members who drew the slime creature to this location. Using the power of a forgotten shrine dedicated to the Old Gods and an occult Tome, the cultists succeeded, but they couldn’t control the monster. Two of them have been morphed into mangled flesh bags, while the other three have fled. The slimy trail leads to a ruined building on the surface, where the heroes come upon another horrific scene, a patrol of city guards has been massacred and two of them have been turned into ‘flesh bags’ as well. After defeating these abominations, the adventurers are taken to see the mayor of Carrion Hill, who welcomes their help in fighting this new threat to his home.

The set-ups use terrain pieces and miniatures from Dwarven Forge, various Wizkids lines, Mantic Crate, Twisting Catacombs, Psomminiature, Reaper Ral Partha and Dreamblade.
