Very nice warm tones. I really like what she's wearing and the fact that it is dark clothing gives a nice balance to the surroundings.

spot on, great shot. from the perfect angle of your model to the little details like the lamp and the leaves around her head. You really brought out the mood and emotion in this shot. Your model is very pretty and is a good candidate for this type of image. I imagined watching you set this up and know you fussed over every detail. As always I am inspired by you and grateful for your work.

thank you you always encourage me so
You should have seen me running up and down, my model exploded in fits of laughter when she saw me carrying the reflector, the lamps, fabrics and trying to take a photo of her at the same time of course I dropped everything

Congratulations for your first paid work
The things i like in your photo....
You have an ability to focus very well at the subject, her face looks very well focused.
The model is very pretty and the clothes fit very well to mood you wanted to show.
The tones are great, the bokeh is so nice. You risked with the 1,8f but you handled it very well.
The things that could be better....
The lamp is nice but i'd prefer not to hide her hair.
The clothes look very dark, if you could light them a bit they would be a plus to the overall of the photo.
As a conclusion i really like the photo, great work. Looking forward to see more

thank you for the critique
I'll try to improve my photo as you recommended; I can't do anything now about the lamp, though, but I'll remember to pay more attention next time

I'm not going to use DA's template, but just a few comments.
Basically, it's an image of outstanding technical quality -- no complaints. Focus rests firmly and clearly on Denisse's face. She's the subject.
But the context gets a little complicated. The oil lamp seems to be intruding unnaturally, and it's much too dim to be reading by it - particularly from almost a meter away. On the other hand, it's a nice anchor and a warm color. I would suggest placing the lamp in the picture where it can be used - say just above the model's head - on the ground. Additionally, we've lost some of her hair to the lamp.
Secondly - the pose is a little rough. Nobody would really want to read like that. My sense is that if Denisse were to look more comfortable, more relaxed, that the image would take on greater balance. I'd like to see another attempt, if that's ever possible.
But it does show an originality of intent and execution and is overall a great picture.

Thank you
the lamp was actually on the ground, very close to her, not even 30cm away; she wanted it that close because she was freezing and said that it also casts a little light on the book; I have another version of this, I'll upload it these days
the pose was actually unstudied - it looks weird because she was wearing a waist-training corset under the dress, and it was the only comfortable position for her (I call that corset "my instrument of torture")

Thank you for your fair critique and for helping me improve.

Well - it's offered humbly. I wouldn't talk down to your work. But I can never resist critiquing anything (including myself), when asked.

I agree with everything you've said in your critique and it's very welcome. It was my first paid job and I was so nervous... Fortunately, she is very happy with the result and has declared me her favourite photographer

It will be hard for her to find a better one.
