Back in the Meiji Period, the locomotives in Japan have buffers. When Eli Janney invented the automatic couplers, this buffer couplers were replaced by these knuckle couplers

Not to be rude but the way you make the engines make them all look like females.

Well, there's that. My engine's faces tend to turn out either creepy or girly. Better girly than creepyย ย
Besides, original faces actually look quite feminine themselves.

Thomas was built in 1915.
Hiro was built in 1935.

Stunning as usual. I have to agree with you on Hiro being one of the exceptions to my rule of not generally liking HiT-era characters, even though I'm normally far from enamoured with international engines as they take away from the timeless, placeless feel of the franchise that makes it so universally relatable. I especially like how his nameplate is in katakana rather than romaji.

I have honestly never seen Hiro drawn with this much true-to-basis accuracy before. This was a real pleasent surprise to see this in my notifications because I quite agree with you on Hiro.ย His debut special, while completely murdering the series continuity, was quite a heartwarming and thrilling tale. Plus the Brennisance made him quite a lovable character up there with Edward, Rheneas and Skarloey.ย His basis is quite cool too being the most mass produced steam locomotive in Japan for the right reasons.
As for the actual picture, the smile on Hiro gives the gentle warmth we knew Hiro for when Thomas first saw him and the colours while less shaded than some of your previous works remind me of the ancient Japanese drawings of historical events but also kept the railway industry I can only see as being a proper Japanese railway. Amazing job once again.

it should be noted that him being in standard gage is not actually beyond the realm of sanity. there were a handful of his class built in standard gage, sent to Korea.

Great to see you again (and your marvellous works). But, where are his buffers and #51? Also, his nameplates should be bigger, and in Latin letters instead of Kanji.

He doesn't need buffers, as he has Janney Couplersย
