No, it really isn't. That's actually a really silly comparison to make.
Declawing them (as long as they're strictly indoor cats) doesn't affect how they live as long as you do it when they are kittens and can get used to living without claws. They won't tear up furniture, get ripped nails, or scratch you or your other pets or kids. My cat doesn't even realize he doesn't have claws.
