Description I still hesitate what category to choose? If the HDR is on the edge between photography and photomanipulation, because it shows scene somewhat different from the visible situation, then you can call this work a photomanip.

But on the other hand, when something is not visible, it still doesn't mean it does not exist. And showing something what does exist and is present in the scene, is not a photomanipulation. For me it's just another point of view... showing things not visible to our eyes.

What is your opinion of HDR?

very welcome Vladimir!

Yes, I usually find them in my friends's galleries and among the features they do.
I have to admit, I'm a little selective when it comes to watching people... But mainly because I don't want to have a thousand "friends" I don't know. If I watch somebody, I want to have a thorough look at his or her deviations and I like to communicate. Something you can only do if the number of people is still manageable...

Another thing I do is, I always have a look at the galleries of people who watch me. And I try to do the same with people who leave a comment or fave my work. And... if you like a person's work you most probably will find more you like among his or her favorites.

I didn't browse the categories on the main page for ages... Except when I'm looking for something. And how some deviations get among the "most popular" is still beyond me, although I know it technically...

And after this kinda lengthy explanation I hope your question wasn't just a rhetorical one...

hehehehe no it wasn't rhetorical question and thank you for the detailed answer. I also browse everyone's gallery who comments or favs, and usually fav them back. But not so often I browse their favs. Yes and features in their journals is great source of inspiration.. although just now I'm somewhat behind - 89 unread journals.

good! *lol*
Well, with about 90 unread journals piled up I'd say you either have to spend a weekend in front of your computer or skip a few... And that's exactly what I meant when I said I'm trying to keep the number of "friends" manageable...

I certainly have to, but still don't know which weekend. lol These days I'm quite busy with my day work.. I don't have time even to go out and photograph. Actually, I don't have even thoughts for it - many worries. Hope this crazy season will be over soon...

Take a break, there are more important things in life than dA. I'm sure everybody will understand.
And I'm sorry you're having a hard time right now. Hope life will brighten up for you again soon.

If HDR is a manip, then B&W is even more of a manip
We can't dismiss or put down things based on personal taste. That said, I can say many HDR are 'tasteless' in the way they are overdone, but that would be tasteless to *me*. To each his own

About this specific one, I usually dislike the way trees and grass turn out on HDR (quite unnatural, plus people tend to make a lot of halos), but you made it work well

i am hearing lots of people love hdr... what do you think about it?

mucek In reply to klmarsala [2008-09-21 09:00:40 +0000 UTC]

I love it too when it's well done. There are many good hdr photographers here and every of them shows a different kind of how to work with this technique. I love watching all of them because it makes me think how it was achieved. But what I love the most in HDR is the fairy tale mood...

Great shot!
I love the colors and the atmosphere you created.

...and to answer your question... I like HDR as long as it emphasizes the subject/scene but still looks "natural".
And I wouldn't consider a HDR as a photomanip. It's more a photo technique to me than an edit.

thank you..

Yes, I have similar attitude. It can be used to emphasize the mood or to express your intention very well. When it's processed carefully, it can still look natural. On the other hand, you can make it look unreal but still very impressive and pleasant to look at (like Zardo's or Nexion's stuff for example). What I personally love in the HDR the most is the possibility to express the fairy tale or mystical mood..

Zardo's/Nexion's photos are excellent, but a little too much for MY taste. It really depends... I have to look at the picture and either I like it or not. *lol* In general I like a mystical/dark mood very much.

yeah, sometimes the extra work is worth for it...

This I took with the Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 lens (my favourite one ) at 12mm.

Thank you for the fav!!

18mm is as far as I can go... and thats equivalent to 24mm cos ive got a DX lens.. which isnt very wide at all but ive set my hopes on this wonderful 18-200mm which should be good when i get £450. its gonna be a while before i move on to a wide angle lens

I go from the other side lol

my first lense was 17-70mm, then 10-20mm, and maybe sometimes in future 70-300mm or similar ...one day...
