Description An illustration that I made for The Alpinist magazine to go with an article written by Chris Van Leuven about Eric Kohl. Eric is one of the most prolific rock climbers to climb in Yosemite National Park, and Chris' article does a beautiful job of giving a glimpse into his life. You can find the article, another one of my illustrations, and many other great photos and illustrations in issue number 40 ([link] )

I started off drawing this in deviantART muro using a self portrait that Eric took for reference. I then printed the piece onto watercolor paper, and painted on top of it with acrylic and watercolor paints. If you watch the redraw you will see a skip right at the end, that is where I import the scanned final piece.

It's amazing, you are using different methods of painting and this in an excellent way. You seem to understand ART in a right way. I really love your work.

Excellent use of brushes! I tend to be boring and just pick one then stick with it. It's great to see what you can accomplish by layering them together this way.

The hardest thing for me with digital art is keeping it from looking too "clean". With traditional paint, all the drips splatters and scratches keep the texture interesting. With dA muro I try to layer brush marks in the same way so I can create an organic texture. Glad that you liked the result!
