Description Fló þá Loki,
- fjaðrhamr dunði, -
unz fyr útan kom
ása garða
ok fyr innan kom
jötna heima.

Then Loki flew,
And the feather-dress whirred,
Till he left behind him
The home of the gods,
And reached at last
The realm of the giants.

I colored it! I usually cop out on backgrounds, but this piece needed one. This is an illustration from the Þrymskviða, one of the best  poems from the Poetic Edda. It's kind of like an Old Norse version of a buddy cop movie starring Thor and Loki.  A giant from Jotunheim steal Thor's hammer  and they set off to get it back, with a few misadventures along the way, including Loki coercing Thor into dressing like a bride. It's one of the poems that showcases Loki at his Loki-est, and next to "The Dark World," it's probably as close to a Thor-and-Loki road trip story that we'll get.

Tell me that wouldn't make a fantastic movie. It would just be hours of bickering and Thor repeatedly ripping the steering wheel out of the dashboard by accident. And Loki idly filing his nails and causing flat tires. GIVE IT TO ME.

Old Norse is fantastic. I wish I could find a recording of the poem in the original language. It's almost as if hearing it resurrects the characters after thousands of years. Just the fact that we can resurrect an ancient tongue in the 21st century is incredible. It jolts the culture back to life.

Also, I love the fact that Loki is inevitably a drama queen no matter which version of the character we're talking about. And yay, I gave him red hair! I don't remember any of the source texts stating he has red hair--just that he's very handsome--but it suits him.

I'm loving red-haired Loki The anatomy in itself is breathtaking the way he seems to be eneveloped by the wings is beautiful. I've always loved this chapter in Norse Mythology and this is by far the best representation I've seen.
( he's got lovely cheekbones too by the way )

As you know I don't normally comment on non-PotO art, but I just had to for this piece.

Love, love, LOVE the background.  It's absolutely gorgeous!

You've outdone yourself on the feathers and wings.  The front of the . . . dress?  Cloak? . . . makes me think of Jack Skellington's  bow-tie (bat-tie?) the way those feathers kind of curl and spread out.

All in all a very wonderful piece.

I really like the pose as well.  Since you often use photos as a basis for your figures, I would love to see the one you used as a basis for this.  All I can picture in my mind is perhaps a ballet leap, though I suppose a skydiving pose would have worked, too.

And a random question:  where do you store all your art?  You've created so many lovely pieces over the past several years that your walls must be completely covered by now - or are some of them digital?

Yeah, I'm just nosy like that.

Oh, my word.  This is /beautiful/.  It's as if he's really moving, and the drama and poetic beauty of his pose is breathtaking.  You are a /master/.
(And I LOVE the Thor's hammer story. XD  I grew up on it).

There's also Alex Beecroft's "All at Sea," with three delightful Loki stories.  (And who could resist a story called "Loki and the Giant Chicken"?)

This is exquisite -- Loki is so beautiful here, and so FREE, as he always should be, and I can almost feel the wind myself, gazing at this!  *loves beyond words*

(If you're in the mood to read an entertaining Loki-and-Thor road trip, you might try M.L. Larson's "Lay of Runes: Sky Treader.")

Oh my God, I remember reading about this episode of the mythology, I found it absolutely amazing. Loki and Thor in disguise, this is so epic. It's stunning as "modern" these old myths appear sometimes. And of course I want that movie too.
Anyway, your piece is beautiful, and drama queen Loki is always gorgeous (I am in love with his leg here).
I love black-haired Loki, but red hair is appropriate, since it recalls Arthur Rackham's version (which I really love), and also Sceithailm's works (such a reference for myth-Loki). Red hair is mischievous, it suits him well.

This is a breathtaking picture and it's always nice to see people properly look into the real mythology. Thrymskviða is one of my favourites in the Edda too.
I really like the black-haired Loki you drew earlier but I like this one too. Both suit him well.
The background is stunning and all of the colour almost seems to glow! I love those little fjords and mountains. Did you use oil pastels?
