Brief History:
A Church Grimm isn’t normally ‘born’, but rather springs from strong desires of a community to protect the final resting place of their deceased. They only turn into the rampaging, wandering spirits known as Barghests when their place to protect is removed… and this was the case of Aleksei.

Born to a small convent, the Black Dog was loyal to his perish, chasing off robbers as was tradition and left offerings by the clergy. However, with the rise of the Soviet Union, the church came under persecution and his little hamlet was no exception. His church was burned, the cemetery bulldozed and his beloved clergy put to death. Outraged, the large hound went on a rampage, haunting the frozen roads of the northern provinces and hunting Soviet sympathizers. His murderous spree was brought to an end by a group of USSR monster hunters who trapped him along the banks of the Vychegda river and sealed him within a human body using a runic collar.

Enraged and now enslaved, the hunting hound went on blind missions for the Soviets, often finding his teeth forced into the necks of those he would have normally protected. He felt he was no longer serving the innocents of the world, but was instead a very real threat to them and attempted to end himself several times. He was not his own master however so he never succeeded, being dragged back, beaten and forced to do worse to his prey.

This continued until that organization was raided in the 80’s by another hunting group known as the Eyes. They had heard of the misuse of magical creatures in Soviet torture methods and sought to end it. Many of the released creatures were destroyed as they had gained a taste for their work and Aleksei had willingly lined up with them. However, he was instead released, his collar broken and control granted back to himself. Now free, he quite honestly didn’t know what to do. He had nothing to go back to… He instead pledged himself to the Eyes, happy to assist somewhere that seemed to be protecting innocents rather than purging them. He’s been with them ever since, loyally guarding his new family.

Other/Fun Facts:
-Part of his torture in the USSR left him neutered, because, as they claimed, a stray dog doesn’t need breed more strays.
-He is intensely loyal to Cesar above all other Eyes members, seeing him as his Master
-As a long-standing member of the Eyes, he has trained other members. Poppy is the first feline however…
