Description Here is another process shot of how i paint. Number 4 still has the lineart over the painting. What i usually do after that is i merge the lineart layer with the underpainting layer and start painting over the lines.

hope this helps

You're an excellent artist. This is Hawke from Dragon Age 2, right?

can you give estimates for every step? I'm curious how much time you need as it looks much faster than starting with a black silhouette (like I actually do) and applying colors step by step.Β

I'd say it really depends on the piece, for this one in particular I just did it to show process so it was quite quick for everything maybe bout an hour for everything, especially because its quite monochromatic for this one.Β

For a bigger more ambitious piece, the sketch will take quite a lot longer because of tweaking and changes. Colour flats will be quite fast because I make changes to colour during actual painting.

Whenever I shade a face, I find that I pick values that are way too dark and it starts looking bad. Would you have any advice for that?

muju In reply to ehecod [2013-11-05 16:04:32 +0000 UTC]

you can try picking a shade that isn't too dark as your darkest shade and put it in the corner of the painting to eyedrop or if you like, after you paint you can try adjusting the levels of the painting

Yeah, this is helpful. Probably easier when lines and flats are merged because you won't end up editing so many layers if necessary. Thanks!

I can try to do that but it'll have to be a video because my painting process is very erratic

muju In reply to Narikoh [2013-11-04 21:29:56 +0000 UTC]

step 5 and so on is where i merge lineart and underpainting and paint over but i did this just now and i don't really feel like taking it further unfortunately
