Description Okay...here goes nothing!! Well, this is a clay model that I started working on. I am by no means a professional modeler, but rather an avid hobbiest...hehe. This piece took me about 5 hours to complete. It isn't the best, but it was fun! >_< I plan to finish the legs and maybe color him, but I am not very skilled in color. Oh well, hope you like it...

Mwahaha.

That's cool, I like it.

I wanted to make one of one of my characters, then cast it in latex and wireframe the insides so he was bendable How cool would that be..

hello, thanks for the comment!! That would be WWWAAAYY cool to do a bendable character! Latex eh...never heard of that? How does the process work? Yeah, I would post more clay models up, but it takes soooo long to complete..you know. Well, again thanks for the comment *goes to your page*

You basically model the character out of clay, then make a cast out of plaster of paris (put the clay character into a box then fill the rest of the box with plaster of paris) Once it's hard and you split the mould in 2, you then use latex (it's a thin, strong rubber - some gloves, masks, adult aides are made of latex...) to fil the mould positioning the pre-made wireframe skeleton in the middle.

Wait till it all hardens - then voila!

Sounds easy but there is various amounts of heat and stuff required and that's where my knowledge falls flat. Hence I have no figures yet...

WOW!! That sounds impressive...What kind of heat are we talking about here? Like top notch oven heat or factory heat? I mean, do you have to go to a special place? I want to know, because I am very interested in making a mould!!! For more than one purpose too!! Well thanks for the info!

Nah - you put it in the kitchen oven kinda heat - I don't think it's even on full blast either. I had a friend who was great at that kinda stuff - he was making me a model, sewing the clothes and everything. But he took a turn for the worst and disappeared

Just gotta make sure you don't get any air bubbles and the finish is excellent.

That is neato!! I will try that mould and see if I can make more of my characters heheh.. I guess that story about your friend is another story eh? Sorry to hear that he took a turn for the worst. Thanks for the info again, take care.

This guy is cool. You should really finish him, he'd be neat to see completed. And yeah, a stop motion would be really cool. Have you ever seen the making of Nightmare Before Christmas? They give alot of tips on how they did the stop motion for that movie.

I love the Nightmare Before Christmas!!! Great movie...I don't know if I have enough patience to do a Stop motion...hehe. I could try, but I think it would be a reject..lol.

I love that movie too, extremely well done. Stop motion would take alot of patience I'd imagine. I've never done too much claymation. I think the way they do it would take away alot of the frustration though. I don't know if you've seen it, but they stick little metal sculpture things inside the clay so it keeps it shape and with the main character they used a bunch of heads and just replaced them for each expression and such. They also had a special camera that allowed them to easily pan and truck and stuff like that. My main problem with the claymations I've done is keeping the clay in the original shape...with those metal 'wire' sculptures inside of it, I'd imagine it would get alot easier.
It never hurts to try it...you may be awesome at it, then you could teach it to me.

Heh, you never know, you may be really good at it. I don't think I'd be very good at it. I haven't done it since fund. of 2d animation and that was like over a year ago I think, and I wasn't that good with it back then, but who knows...maybe I magically got better.

The dudes who made the celebrity deathmatch at mtv did something like that, but they use some sort of rubbery stuff in stead of regular clay for the wire mold bodys so they kept their form better.
