Description In case you didn't get the literary reference (which is probably more likely than not, seeing as how it might be just my translation of Les Miserables that uses that as the title of the chapter in which she is introduced as a grown girl), this is Eponine.

Yes, I know, in the musical she's famous for her coat and floppy hat, and she does wear men's clothes in her famous death scene, but, in the novel, for most of it, she's in a ragged skirt torn with a string and a chemise that falls down to her waist (which she often doesn't notice, apparently, which is awkward for a girl of 16).

Believe me. I spent the whole time I was drawing her referring back to the passage in which she walks into Marius's room for the first time. She's quite a character in that scene, flitting about his room, poking through his stuff, singing, telling him he's handsome with his messy hair, and then eating a dusty piece of bread crust she finds on his bureau because she's so hungry.

She also has a voice like a chain-smoker, apparently. I find this endlessly funny. Can you imagine singing "On My Own" in a "raucous" voice tainted with spirits? It's definitely a different take.

Though I agree with Victor Hugo. It makes her so much more real-- and more pitiable.

Things I like: The shading was fine, but it's not so hot on this particular upload. She's also pretty, but not too pretty.

Things I don't like: The messed-up door and her hands, for the most part.

VERY beautiful picture of Eponine! Quite a nice portrait.

(I'm quite a fan of Les Miserables, despite the fact I know very little about it. I've only heard {most} of the music from the musical itself, although I've never actually SEEN it... nor read the novel. I suck, I know.)

I agree that the shading's nice... and I, personally, think the hands are fine... Quite a ton better than what I'd ever accomplish, anyway.

I love the folds in the skirt and the clothes, in general... and the hair is very, very pretty... and so are the eyes.

Wonderful anatomy, too!

Great job. :3

Thank you!

Yeah, I just know (some) songs from the musical-- I have like a little "Highlights" CD of it. We read the abridged version of the novel in school, though, and I fell in love-- and then bought the huge-a-mongus full thing later on. I still think there's passages of it I haven't read (most of the history sections, probably). Yet it's still one of my favorite novels.

Well, her hands look better than what I usually do, at any rate. Mine get too pointy.

She looks most abandoned and pitiable indeed. ;.; I really like her face...

She ended up looking vaguely like someone I know, which scary on one level but rather neat on another . . . which is good, then, that she's not as ugly as she potential could have been (I purposely didn't show her teeth, because she's missing some, apparently)-- but that would be terrible to have an ugly Eponine. That'd just be too tragic for her.
