Description
Another shot from Glacier National Park, this time from the trail up to Grinnell Glacier. There was a herd of bighorns wandering around near the trail as we started to head down, and we were watching a young one (to judge by his fairly short, straight horns) who had decided to graze right alongside the trail, although (frustratingly) in the shadow of the mountain. Grrr…I have such a hard time taking good pictures without direct light. But then I noticed this much larger bighorn staring down at us from his excellent vantage point way above us. He looks so regal
.No modifications to this one apart from adjustments to the color and lighting, and cropping. So I don't have to feel guilty at all this time!

Why are you feeling guilty about the improvments to your images. Photographers have been doing this since photography was invented. Now all of a sudden, it seems that all the things I did in the darkroom for many years, are now unacceptable. I find it difficult to understand

I'm not really feeling guilty; it's more a sort of good-natured laughing at myself for changing the picture from the way I saw it in real life. I have absolutely no objection to modifying the lighting, color, cropping, etc. of the image, but when I change the actual composition by cutting things out and moving them, or when I drastically alter the background, I just like to remind myself not to do too much. I do generally object to cutting something out of its background and putting it in a place where I wouldn't have seen it naturally (when the image is still presented as a photograph, rather than a photomanipulation), such as taking one of these Rocky Mountain butterflies and putting it on a tulip, but if the altered image is still something similar to the original, I am willing to change it to a better composition.
