Description "'...Did I do that?'
'Yes, Edward. You are, after all, a wizard. And I most certainly believe that this is your perfect wand,' he said, his silver eyes shining brightly. 'It's been a few years since I've seen quite a display; it was as if it was made for you.'
He took it from Edward gingerly, and the sheen upon the wood dimmed significantly. Ollivander closely observed the addition to the design, the snake-like emboss that wrapped around the length of the handle of the wand.
'...how very...curious.'"
{excerpt from "Chapter Four: Apothecaries, Cauldrons and Wands--Oh My!"}

And here we see Edward's wand as described in "Entwined Sorcery." I had soooo much fun with this.

BEFORE I GET ANY HP PEOPLE CORRECTING ME ABOUT THE WAND'S CORE: I am fully aware that Ollivander only uses unicorn hairs, dragon heartstrings and phoenix feathers. For an explanation upon the core of Edward's wand being of thestral heartstring, see chappy four of my story!

This didn't take me as long as I thought it would; the thestral was super fun to draw. I like dark creatures!!!

Now, why elm? Because of it's meaning; it represents strength of will and power. It's a very strong wood, not very prone to splitting and very reliable for building stuff out of. Even when its wet it retains it strength--that's why it's used alot of times in coffins!

Teehee, Ed's got a coffin wand...

Also, the snake on the wand can foreshadow something, I think...but then again it could be a trick. Or it could represent something entirely different. But then that would still be foreshadowing, wouldn't it? (confused yet?)

cool! i like it! that annoys me too - about the wand cores, just cos olivander doesn't use them it doesn't mean they don't exist. basalisck scale for example.
