Though it certainly may not be the most conventional or damaging of attacks out there, the Fell Stinger attack is nonetheless an interesting move that can make the act of finishing off an opponent an extremely rewarding practice in battle. In effect, the Fell Stinger attack involves the user attacking with a sharp stinger or thorny protrusion in an extremely aggressive, adrenaline-fueled rush. The actual power of this move might only be somewhat minor at best, but when it comes to keeping a winning streak going in battle, few moves can fuel the chase better than this cunning strike.

The act of defeating an opponent in battle is usually a rewarding experience for most, as it triggers the release of endorphins and other chemicals that alter the perceptions of a Pokémon to make them happier or even more aggressive. Sadly, these sort of experiences are usually completely subjective and may or may not come with the actual defeat of an opponent. Instead of just hoping that their battle fervor will carry them through multiple opponents, a few species of Pokémon have learned how to trick their own bodies into getting this battle fervor whenever they really want. The Fell Stinger attack itself simply involves a Pokémon striking a target with a pointed barb or stinger after working themselves up into a frenzy. The actual damage done by this attack is fairly small even in comparison to regular moves like Tackle or Pound, but it does come with an added twist if it manages to be enough to defeat an opponent. Normally, when this attack is delivered, the user relaxes afterwards and nothing more happens.  If, however, the attack is enough to finish off their opponent, it will automatically kick their fevered state into overdrive and force their brain to release massive amounts of adrenaline into their bodies; this has the immediate effect of critically raising the user’s Attack stat (twice as much as normal). As such, the potential this attack has for powering up a Pokémon is more than a bit startling and can certainly be enough to turn an otherwise angry physical offender into a furious fighting machine that even the best of physical defenses will have a hard time overcoming.

Countering Fell Stinger: Since an opponent must use a barbed appendage of some sort to execute a Fell Stinger attack, striking the barbed appendage can help reduce or negate the damage dealt by this attack; otherwise, it is exceptionally difficult to dodge in close quarters. Metallic armor can also help reduce or negate the damage dealt by this attack, but rocky armor is unlikely to perform as well on its own. The Fell Stinger attack may not be extremely damaging or even common enough to be of much concern, but if your Pokémon are on the ropes and the opposition has access to this attack, only quick reflexes and a temporary switch in active Pokémon will be able to nullify the worst potential effects of this move in battle.
