I think Mai supports Zutara in a way for she truely loves Zuko and will be content with his happiness. However that only'll work if Mai knows of Katara and Zuko

You know, this is basically blasphemy.
When Unholy Baphomet shows up at three in the morning, his goat-legs swathed in a towel, scratching at the chin he has yet to shave, and clutching at an emergency cup of coffee, blearily asking what you want, then you will know what to blame.
Just sayin'. You may want to invest in some holy weaponry.
Here are some suggestions:

It just gets more terrifying when you find out just what the Knife-Eye Attack DOES...

Allow me to enlighten you! Here follows one long comment where I shall try to explain about my affection for Zutara.. Ya'll have been warned!
First of all.. I guess I've allways been a fan of the whole "opposites attract" thing! Propably because I attract alot to guys who're not very much like me And with Zutara, there is the basic opposites like water/fire and all.. But they still have some kind of a connection! Through their similar past and also personality wise. They are both stubborn, as proven many times! And they are sensitive, but they are hard to throw off if they are focused. Also, when Katara is around Zuko, she acts like herself! He has seen every side of her, without backing away, instead he stood there and allowed her to take out all her anger on him! Whereas Aang, would have been close to crying, and desperate to find a way to fix everything! Zuko on the other hand, stayed calm and when it came to it, he helped her find peace about her mother Ahh, and here's a thing about that incident! Aang did nothing here! I mean, sure, forgiveness is all good and well, but sometimes it just takes a bit more than that! Katara said it herself, she never did forgive the man who murdered her mother.. But she didn't kill him either and become a murderer herself! And Zuko held a BIG part in that decicion! If he hadn't told Katara about his own struggles about his mother, do you think she'd have trusted him enough to go with him alone? I doubt it!
OK, that's all I have for now! If you want more, let me know about any arguments!^^ But of course I know you are a Zutarian yourself, Rose, so I hope you agree with me!;D

Mmm.. nice. So, we know that Zuko and Katara go along nicely. Yin to the yang, night to day, moon to sun, etc. Blancing act. (shame Aang and all his mystical wisdom didn't see that one coming. ) But, how does Mai support it? Hmmm....? Is it because she sees how Zuko is actually himself around her? How Zuko actually feels happy for the first time in his life? How maybe, just maybe this once, he might NOT need to think about his mother to complete his happiness because there is such a thing as pure love that can cure his void? That maybe someone else actually understands who Zuko is as a person and not just as a Prince or FireLord? How even though Zuko might never find his mother or if he did that she might be dead, but that might not be as bad because he has someone who understands the unbelieveable honest rage he feels and has felt it themselves? That if he becomes so angry that he wants to take it out on his father, he has an example to follow from Katara and her strength of being with him, guiding him, encouraging him, that maybe he won't destroy Ozai like he so badly wants?
Or that maybe katara might be able to heal his wounds he still has-physically and emotionally? That Katara might need him around to help mend her heart? That Katara needs him to feel at ease with herself and feel that anything she may do-such as bloodbending-is NOT a horrid crime, but something that can be embraced and cherished as a gift and not a curse?
Like that? That's how mai supports Zutara? or something else? I have more ideas to spill out, if needed.
