Description I was surrounded by these blackbirds when I first arrived at Sandy Hook. The males were everywhere trying to warn other males off of their territory, typically flying between two or three trees each. Their call sounds like the title of this deviation.

This photo catches one in mid-call.

Species: Red-winged Blackbird
Location: Plum Island, Sandy Hook, New Jersey
Lens: EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM

Even though they're everywhere it's hard to get a good photo cuz they're so fast. Lucky you got one on a branch that's not obstructed by a bunch of other branches like my backyard. Then again it's probably easier in Sandy Hook - I gotta remember to go there again in a few months to see if I can capture any good shots.

So many of my other red-winged blackbird shots have obstructions - they fly away quickly. Only really way to get a good photo is if they fly to you.

Maybe I can lure them with some bird seed. Lol.

Hehe. I just end up staying in the same place for a while. Sometimes it works... sometimes it doesn't.
