Stupid Hyenas!RRnnggh..... I hate hyenas for their unpick-able colors >:C No matter how much I compare, I always see that they are in a different shade than the other characters.... OR, that there is too much spooky 'mist' over them
hmmm... interesting
I always prefer to base on something I am sure wasn't put under a filter of some short like the BG, as here, the 3 hyenas aren't on the same layer and doesn't have the same level of light (Shenzi is more in the light, then there is Banzai in a mid light and Ed lost somewhere in the shadow)
Playing with the BG to determine just how much exactly Ed is in the shadow... then deleting the blue and shadow filter on the characters and TADA!!!
something closer to reality than stupid blue-ish grey. (because hyenas are always in dramatic blue-dark, green-dark or red light and filters in the movie T_T)
Dunno what I'll do with this... but at least I'll be able to base on something!
I base on the sky, the rock and then, for the characters I based on their teeth and mouth colors that doesn't much change, then tried to keep the eyes on the same shade-level

Try looking at one of these for the sunlight colors: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia⦠or www.hdpaperwall.com/wp-content⦠I know there's a better version of that picture somewhere, but trying to find it is proving to be difficult. It's a start at least to get their normal colors without shading

I checked it and all the colors doesn't match all I have XD ref...
I wasn't really far from that ref colors !!

I kind of wish that Disney would release the exact colors lol So none of us would need to work hard to get exact colors! XD

yeah.... but they can't and again we'd have to recalibrate it because there would be so much versions! D:
at least on that I can base on something solid (the BG are originally put on the same layers and I think for that one nothing much moved behind)

The only place I found them to be in direct sunlight is when they are snapping at the heels of the wildebeest herd. Then there's no shade on them ^^

I think it only was Shenzi they showed. Maybe Banzai. No Ed. But definitely showed Shenzi.

Yes, I know for that one, for sure I could check and equalize the sky color and then base on Shen as well on this one
but the shadow is very much simple
there is a spot where we see the light changing, so I put a filter to nullify the blue filter and so on until they are all equal
I think ed is in.... about 45% shade?
I tried for other picture, but they did put a complete 'NPC-like' filter(which means the base under is of a different color) and that flattens all their colors and makes them all the same...
in one pict they are the same color as scar and in the end I totally can't base on that!...
in the graveyard they kill the saturation and never put them in the same level as the lion, not even zazu when they got him... because of the light on them and to give them more 'I am evil' kind of thing :S
well.... I could try and find another, but I think the second along this one also have shadow added on their top of head and the one during the chase where they stop is against the light(so harsh sun filter warning(those are the hardest)), so nah! I think I'm good!

You know what? I should go get my TLK book. It's from when they auctioned off TLK works, and a LOT of the works didn't have filters or shading on them. I'll have to see if any of the hyena shots work! I forgot I had that! If I find some, I'll scan them and show ya!

that would sure help....but printed works are often more red and yellow :S (printer defect, etc and the fact screen and paper colors simply aren't the same)
so it would give me work again XD
but I think I'd mix all of those.
after that it's all up to interpretation I think?
