Description This is a memory doodle of Asher Durand's "In the Woods".

I looked at his work for 20 minutes, and painted for 4 hours.
Liquitex Professional HB Acrylic on 5"x7" stretched canvas.

Thanks for looking! I think I continue to improve in this medium and particular exercise, although the colors are way off here.

This is an amazing painting, I'd never call it a doodle I actually love the colours here, they make the forest look alive, like on a warm sunny day

I did it in a day, and it was an exercise, not a final painting. Thanks though! Doodles count too! Doodles are awesome.

I seemed to liven up the place, as it were. I tell you I am an eternal optimist.

Really, my memory is poor.

This is absolutely lovely, and it's amazing that you did it from memory! You say that you got the colours wrong, but they feel so...right; they give the painting a really warm spring/summery feel, which I think suits it really well (:

mynti In reply to Octopus-child [2011-07-15 02:31:40 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! I guess I painted it how I thought it should look, or how my mind made it up to be, instead of how it really was. It's fun (and hard) to do these.

You're welcome! I guess that way the painting is more personal. I would think that they'd be really fun and challenging at the same time (:

Oh my god! You should dress up as a renn artist and paint there! That would be awesome. I would do it if I could get out of work! I'm sure people would flock to you to watch.

Haha, maybe! But then, I am in a sword fight group, it is my hobby and after a proper fight the hands are shaking for a good while. Would make something like van Gogh.

I wish i could learn from you! You must have a very perceptive eye to do this well and realistically from memory...

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

mynti In reply to Legrandzilla [2011-07-13 21:35:29 +0000 UTC]

I have done about 20 of these that never saw the light of day. It takes practice to do memory exercises well, and I still struggle sometimes.

Legrandzilla In reply to mynti [2011-07-13 23:16:30 +0000 UTC]

maybe sometime I will have to search youtube for a tutorial and try it..If I do, I will prolly be ashamed of it, but if I am not too embarrased maybe I will post it and ask you to check it out for me..Cya!

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

mynti In reply to Legrandzilla [2011-07-15 02:39:28 +0000 UTC]

There is no tutorial, you simply look for a time, then paint what you remember. It's simple but hard.

You are an amazing artist and don't let anyone tell you otherwise! I don't see a problem with the colors, but it does look like it's spring/summer in the top half and autumn in the bottom. Still, that's not a bad thing.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

mynti In reply to wyldhoney [2011-07-13 20:27:30 +0000 UTC]

Thanks much! I just mean if you look at the original, the colors are much darker and greyer than mine. I have a technicolor memory!
