Description When the sun goes down all the little critters come out to play. What a beautiful area. I was ecstatic to see the water had flattened out some. I love it so much! I hope that you all enjoy as well!

one of your best. i think that when a photograph makes you really feel something, its powerful, and very well taken. this one is both powerful, and does make be feel something, particularly longing, and sense of timelessness. in most cases i would say that you should have waited for the sun to set a bit more so that the trees would go dark in the foreground, but in this case, they really add to the shot, kind of drawing the actual subject over to the bottom right. I also love birch trees, so i may be overrating it a bit for that. lol but in all honesty, amazing shot, i might have applies a darkening effect to the edges, or possibly taken the photo at the longer exposure to soften it some. but great work once again, keep it up!

Thank you very much. I am very happy this photo makes you feel this way! I agree that a darkened edge around the corner might be nice. I could soften it more too I think, possibly. We'll see. Thank you for the critique and I am glad that you like it!

lol, no problem! the birch tree made me homesick for my little lake in wisconsin. the path around is called birch lane... but they killed all the birch trees... there's only pictures now. i'm trying to grow a little one on the lakeside though.

I really, really like this! I especially like how you almost can't tell where the shore stops and the shore's reflection begins. I do have a question, though: how did you get the lighting to cooperate, especially where the trees in the foreground are concerned?

I used a more toned down HDR photo for this so that it still looks real, but also so I could get that illumination. Another thing that I think might have worked, although it might not... would be to turn on your flash. Then you focus with the camera taking in the readings of the brightest area, where the sun is. Then when you take the picture you will get the lake and the sun right and you can bring the foreground in better. Just make sure your focus includes the area closest to you. I have done this before with sunsets when taking pictures of people. I have gotten incredible results too! Just make sure your foreground is focused too... That is the problem I ran into the first time I tried it.

Me too. I have been super lucky the two days I have gone in. The water ends up smoothing out nicely!
