Isn't it interesting that the reason there was bw photography was because there was no color film. lol

Black and white can be dramatic. Would Ansel Adams, Mann Ray, Edward Weston or Philippe Halsman be shooting black and white today? Would they be shooting Digital and using Photoshop or Lightroom? Ah ha, would they even be relevant today as current artists? I can't deny that they have an effect on what is happening in photography today, we all emmulate what we have seen in the past. But would they be notable current artist. Hmmmm! And does fine art photography have to be in Black and White. I don't see much color in my local photographic arts museum.

I think Ansel developed the zone system... very useful and new to him (I think).
Man Ray..well, he was a quirky artist and he would definitely have used digital, color and xerox and whatever he could find. Weston and Philippe, yeah.. well all of them would use digital.
One of the things that BW affords is the hand of the photographer in printing, to tweak, to change etc. I find any printing of digital work is a bit hit or miss due to interactions and relationships between camera, computer, printer type and ink.. and then paper. It's harder to get it right. At least that's what I've found.
There is a lot of color out there but in the past it's been non archival mostly and so you can't charge as much. I you used cibachrome or one of the other color processes that last a really long time, then you can sell color. ;-D BW is trendy right now.. totally trendy. As are degraded and out of focus images.
